2021 can truly be heralded as the year of action films with a strong female character in the spotlight. Only this year should the following action films be released or have already been released: "Monster Hungter", "Black Widow", "Slate", "Hourly", "Burn everything", "Gunpowder Cocktail", "Pretty on edge" and some others.

But the piggy bank is only replenished, as they say, and from the streaming giant Netflix we are waiting for an interesting action movie called "Kate" (Kate) French director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who was previously noted for creating visual effects for the first "Snow White and the Hungtsman" (2013), for which, by the way, he was nominated for an Oscar, and the directorial debut of the second part "Hungter" (2016). It also warms the soul to find a former stuntman and now a successful action director among the producers. David Leitch (“John Wick”, “Atomic Blonde”, “Vorsage: Hobbs and Shaw”).

Synopsis: A girl named Kate is a professional killer who has gained fame as an unnaturally skilled specialist. However, in the midst of a mission to eliminate one of the Yakuza bosses, the girl realizes that she has been poisoned. She has less than 24 hours left to find and punish her own killers. The daughter of one of Kate’s former victims and her contact, whom she completely trusts, will help her with this.

The main role in the film was played by the actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” “Die Hard 4.0,” “Birds of Prey: The Fabulous One Harley Quinn”), and her company includes: Woody Harrelson (“Seven Lives”, “No Country for Old Men”), Michiel Houseman (“The Haunting of Hill House”) and such notable Japanese actors as Tadanobu Asano (“47 Samurai”, “Mortal Kombat”), Miyavi ("Unbroken", "Kong: Skull Island") and Jun Kunimura (“Hard Boiled”, “Kill Bill” duology).

The participation of one of the 87Eleven team members did not escape our close attention Jonathan Eusebio, who worked as one of the directors of fight choreography in the trilogy "John Wick" - in film "Kate" he is the second director and is responsible for the local action. We are talking about a Brazilian action movie called "Princess Yakuza" (Yakuza Princess) director and screenwriter Vicente Amorim (“Rio, I love you”, “Motorcycle”, “Division”).

Synopsis: Japanese community in Sao Paulo. 21-year-old orphan Akemi discovers that she is the heir to half of the Yakuza empire, and that the other half of the famous crime syndicate wants her dead. Yakuza envoys begin to pursue the girl, whose life now hangs in the balance. Salvation comes from an amnesiac foreigner who is sure that an ancient samurai sword links his fate with a Japanese girl.

The main role went to the actress under the pseudonym Masumi, which previously appeared only in short films and TV series. Her on-screen duet was an Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers (series “Tudors”, “Vikings”, “Dracula”), and the rest of the cast is: Tsuyoshi Ihara ("Letters from Iwo Jima") Kenny Leu (TV series "NCIS") Eijiro Ozaki (TV series “Altered Carbon”) and others.

And the trailer for the upcoming post-apocalyptic action film has finally appeared online. "Prisoners of the Land of Ghosts" (Prisoners of the Ghostland).

Мы already wrote about this project, which became the first Western film from the famous Japanese visionary director Siona Sono (duology “The Swan of Shinjuku”, “Tokyo Clan”, “Why don’t you play with me in Hell?”).

The story will unfold around a man nicknamed Hero, who lives capriciously in the ashes of civilization in the city of samurai, constantly breaking the law. The city is ruled by a merciless dictator nicknamed the Governor, who leaves no choice to the protagonist, sending him in search of his granddaughter. Moreover, the Hero must manage to do this within a strictly allotted time, otherwise his suit, filled with explosives, will explode.

The main role in the film was played by a former Hollywood favorite Nicolas Cage (“Snake Eyes”, “The Rock”, “The Life of David Gale”), the rest of the acting ensemble is announced: Sofia Boutella ("Kingsman: The Secret Service") Nick Cassavetes ("Alpha Dog"), Bill Moseley (“Grindhouse”) and Japanese martial artist So Sakaguchi (“Death Trance”, “Shinobi”, “Rebirth”).

“Prisoners” awaits a limited release, as well as a release on streaming platforms. 17 September 2021 years.
