Trailer for the film "The Three Musketeers"

I think that after watching the trailer, many will agree with me that a new, very “free” film adaptation of the famous novel by A. Dumas "Three Musketeers" (The Three Musketeers) by Paul Anderson looks a lot like a mixture “Resident Evil” (Resident Evil) and "The Musketeer" (The Musketeer) 2001. In that version, the musketeers (and their backups) were fluent in the so-called “wire-fu” (rope kung fu), and this was largely the merit of the fight director Xun Xing Xina (Xiong Xin Xin), familiar to fans of Chinese action films, primarily for his role as the “club-footed Seventh,” a servant Jet Li in a series of films “Once upon a time in China”. It is worth mentioning that in 2005 Xun Xing Xing received a film festival award "Golden Horse" for Best Fight Choreography in a Film "Seven Swords".

In the new version, stunt choreography is carried out by Nick Powell (Nick Powell) He is a five-time winner of the prestigious award “Taurus World Stunt Award”, and was its nominee as many as 12 times. For fights in the film "The Bourne Identity" in 2003 he was presented with an award American Choreography Award for outstanding achievements in fight choreography. Nick Powell, mastering various types of martial arts, was at one time a member of the British national team wushu and won second place at the European Championships. He was also a London fencing champion and his stunt career began in 1986.

Overall, new version "The Three Musketeers" should appeal specifically to fans of action films, and not film adaptations that are as close as possible to the original works. Moreover, only in a few films the fencing was at the proper level, in the rest it simply caused an involuntary smile.

PS Incidentally, Logan Lerman, who plays D'Artagnan, teaches fencing Brian Danner (Brian Danner), company owner Sword Fights Inc. and director of theatrical stage fights in "American Academy of Dramatic Arts". D'Artagnan is dubbed by a famous stuntman and stunt coordinator. Don Lee (Don Lee)

Xenic, come on! the same action-fairy tale, based on some realities.... there are pirates of the Caribbean seas, there are musketeers. Obviously, if you look at the film as an adaptation of a classic, then yes. But if you look at it as a simple fantasy action game, then very much so! Although it’s a matter of taste, why argue... and it’s just a trailer, it’s too early to evaluate)

The film is not like Pirates of the Caribbean, by the way. There is nothing remote.

EvilDollaR thank you so much! otherwise I’m tired of searching and listening to the video))

2 Xenic, how do you rate “Pirates of the Caribbean”? bullshit?

    It's bullshit, not a movie!

Of course, I apologize for being off-topic, but no one by any chance knows what kind of magical music is playing in the second video... Well, I really liked it!)

According to the film, yes, such “musketeers of the Caribbean” are planned))

Jason, carefully read the second paragraph of the news. ;)

The film is, in fact, “entertainment” in its purest form; you shouldn’t take it too seriously.

You're right Evil, separate ones, but something tells me that Danner will be advising the entire site. It's unlikely that stunt coordinators Volkhard Buff or Nick Powell have more experience in fencing than Danner (they don't even appear anywhere in their filmographies, not once information that they coordinated the staging of battle scenes with weapons).

Although there is information about Nick Powell on imdb, please translate it, maybe you can add it to the news with his photo as information about the person one way or another involved in coordinating the battle scenes:

    Nick Powell - mini biography
Nick's work has received twelve Taurus World Stunt Award nominations, winning five of them. He also won the fight choreographer of the year for his work on The Bourne Identity where he choreographed and shot all of the fights. Having studied a number of Martial arts he was a member of the British Wu Shu team (placing 2nd in the European Championships) as well as being London Fencing Champion. Nick began his stunt work in the UK in 1986 after initially training and working as an actor.

Nick Powell, also credited as Nicholas Powell, is a champion swordsman who has trained many Hollywood actors, including Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe and Mel Gibson. Powell served as stunt co-ordinator for Muppet Treasure Island, and performed the right hand of Kermit the Frog (as Captain Abraham Smollett) during his swordfight with Long John Silver.
Expert in martial arts as well as weaponry, Powell's credits as a stunt performer include Batman, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Judge Dredd. As a stunt coordinator or swordsmaster, his resume includes Braveheart, Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet, The Mummy, The Last Samurai, Gladiator, Cinderella Man, and 28 Days Later.

This is actually a mystery to me. Today, in films one way or another related to martial arts with or without weapons, 2 trends appear (unfortunately not very encouraging).

    1. A lot of fights are filmed in extremely dark corners, as if they were specifically looking for the far corners of a garage on the 10th floor underground without light.

    2. In many films where there must be a fight choreographer or fight coordinator, they make do with only the position of “stunt coordinator”. A striking example of this is the new musketeers, a film about an era in which they fencing every 15 minutes on the streets. In my opinion, there should be a position in the film crew not less
Master sword fight choreography and fencing coordinator and a couple more "co" assistants.

Jason, thank you, I added a video, but a fencing teacher and a director are two different things (you gave a video of Danner)... Again, everything can be ruined by editing and directing, although in the case of Anderson it’s unlikely to be a mess.

MoCap was not used in Shrek; such things depend on the professionalism of the 3D animators.

Most likely there will be something similar to "The Musketeer". The video does not inspire confidence at all. Not one exciting excerpt from the fight. All the most interesting and exciting that could be shown, a training room with a stand of swords and sabers, gerard thibault Mysterious Circle so to speak, the kitchen itself is not there =( As in other recent films about Ip Man, when working with muk-yang-jong, there are pitiful snatches, diluted with third-party footage. You can say one of the main steps in Wing Chun, and this is shown with a “gulkin nose”. I look forward to Pixar’s “Puss in Boots” with much more trepidation. How he fenced in the second Shrek. Although, maybe “The Three Musketeers” is the case when there is no trailer, and we will watch the film over and over again (but something I really like
    I highly doubt it)!?

By the way, here is a link to the director's Demo Reel.

It will definitely be a clear film, I think so.
I hope it turns out like the last Sherlock
