Mortal Kombat movie trailer

A story with sequels, and later a reboot of the film adaptation of the cult series of fighting games "Mortal Kombat" lasted almost 20 years. The project was either abandoned or picked up by various producers, screenwriters and directors, until the film adaptation fell into the hands of a Hollywood film maker James Wan (franchise "Saw", "The Conjuring", "Fast and Furious"). Under his leadership, the project acquired a new screenwriter and director, and filming was moved all the way to a separate country - Australia, where Mortal Kombat became the most expensive project in the local film industry.

Unfortunately, the film adaptation could not avoid production problems: plot plans were changed several times and the actors returned for reshoots. At some point, the script for a future hand-to-hand action movie was leaked online, and after reading it, ardent fans of the original began to “hound” the project. The new MK film has had a hard time with the pandemic - the film's premiere was postponed twice while all the postponed projects Warner Bros. the company did not take it for display on its streaming channel HBO. It got to the point where the filmmakers couldn’t release a trailer for a long time in order to save on advertising costs.

However, fans of games and action films can now exhale - the trailer has appeared on the Internet!

Let us remember that the director "Mortal Kombat" is a feature film debutant Simon McQuoid. Unfortunately, we didn’t notice any familiar names among the action directors. Although... Maybe for the better...

Character posters

The classic story, of course, not without changes, will be shown through the eyes of a completely new character for the universe - mixed martial arts fighter Cole Young. According to the plot, he is a loser who loses for money. But one day he encounters the powerful cryomancer warrior Sub-Zero, after which he learns that he is chosen to participate in the battle for Earthrealm. Cole's acquaintance with other "mark" holders Major Jax and Lieutenant Sonya Blade leads him to the temple of Lord Raiden, the Elder God and protector of Earthrealm. Here, Cole trains with seasoned warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and the rogue mercenary Kano, preparing to confront Outworld enemies under the leadership of the sorcerer Shang Tsung. But will Cole be able to make every effort and unlock the arcana within himself - the powerful power of his soul, in order not only to save his family, but also to stop the Outer World once and for all?

The main role in the film is given to Lewis Tan (TV series “In the Desert of Death”, “Wu Assassins”). Well, since the characters of this universe are well known to everyone, let us once again list who plays whom: Hiroyuki Sanada ("The Last Samurai", "Rush Hour 3") as Scorpio, Joe Taslim ("The Raid", "The Night Follows Us") as Sub-Zero, Josh Lawson ("Becoming Bond", "Scandal") as Kano, Jessica McNamee ("Meg: Monster of Depth") as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks (TV series "Supergirl") as Jax, Tadanobu Asano ("47 Samurai") as Lord Raiden, Ludy Lin ("Power Rangers") as Liu Kang, Max Huang ("Police Story 2013") as Kung Lao, Chin Han ("Ghost in the Shell") as Shang Tsung, Sisi Stringer ("Hell Hell") as Melina, Nathan Jones ("Troy") as Reiko, stunt performer Daniel Nelson ("Kong vs. Godzilla") as Kabal and stunt girl Elissa Cadwell (“Aquaman”) as Nitara.

The theatrical premiere of the film is scheduled for April 15, at which time the action movie will also be available on HBO, but in Russia "Mortal Kombat" will be shown in cinemas earlier - April 8 2021 years.

I very rarely watch trailers. Without them, I usually know what I want to watch and what not. Besides, trailers are spoilers. And for me, any frame is already a spoiler. But this one looked. And nothing. There was absolutely no opinion. Once again I am convinced that there is no point in watching trailers.

Am I really seeing this? Trailer for the new "Mortal Kombat"! Indeed, for so many years there have been rumors on the Internet that a reboot is about to be released, but now there is definitely going to be a movie! Isn't this cool!? I don’t fall into the category of skeptics, so I’ll express an unpopular opinion - I really liked the trailer and I also have a very good feeling about the film. Whether the reboot will achieve the same cult status as Poul Anderson's original film is hard to say, but I already have a feeling I'm going to enjoy watching it. And my instincts rarely let me down. Another thing is that the new MK may become a victim of high fan expectations and comparison with the original is inevitable... according to the principle: “but it was better before.” I believe that you should initially accept the new film for what it is, and then there will be no problems with perception. You can already see from the trailer that it will look quite decent. And the actors, in my opinion, are also well chosen. So, I’m definitely looking forward to it!

In my opinion, the trailer turned out to be very cool! :) Much better than I expected. We can only hope that the film itself will match the trailer. :)

Alexander, if expectations are very low, then the trailer may be better than expected. But to me, it looks like some kind of standard film adaptation that has nothing to claim cult status.
Ehhh, if only ten years ago they would have filmed it based on “Rebirth” - with Michael White, Latif Crowder...
