Is Tony Jaa coming back?

Resource Twitch, citing reliable sources of information, reports:

Tony Jaa left the Buddhist monastery, where he found refuge after leaving “Ong-Bak 3”. In addition, the exclusive contract with the company is due to expire soon “Sahamongkol”. At the moment Jaa a new project is approaching, to begin production of which it remains to collect the last bits of the required amount of finance in the circles of the Hong Kong film industry. Although the name and plot details remain a mystery, it is reported that the legendary Sammo Hung appointed as fight director.

О Jaa and the Hong Kong project have been rumored for a long time, and, quite possibly, now is just the right moment for it. Thus, Jaa will be able to get back into shape, being away from close media attention and pressure from relatives. And, if everything is in order, after completion he will be able to safely return back to Thailand as a “conquering hero.” A number of companies are now actively negotiating about possible work on this project, so the rest is most likely just a matter of time.

Details will be published as news becomes available.

    Very good news!!!! THANK YOU!

    Thanks for the great news.

Well, the Bangkok Knockout DVD has arrived.
I downloaded it, I'll probably take a look this evening.

EvilDollaR after watching the footage, the feeling that the film turned out good. The picture looks nice. Waiting..

Elvin, let's see, in general, I think Donny can still squeeze out a maximum of a couple of years, we'll see, if Donny's film with Jaa ends up being made, we'll all be happy about it. The only thing I would like is maximum realism, but not with an MMA leaning, but a more cinematic version. I remember how I was once waiting for a duet between Lee and Dacascos, but I was completely disappointed in the approach and result of the fight.

Let it be as you said deplorable. But there is no need to say that over the past ten years they have not filmed anything normal at all. You asked me to tell you at least one, I told you five.

    Author's gravatar

We persuaded you to scrape together the heels of films) So what? 5 films in 10 years??? Isn't this an indicator... deplorable?
But every year a bunch of historical crap comes out... In some places it’s not bad, but in general the flying games have already been spoiled...

P.S. I didn't like Doni Yen precisely because he always has cables... even where you can do without them. Take, for example, the most gorgeous final battle in the Hot Spot - well, everything was just gorgeous, no, you still had to screw up the flight on cables (this is when they fell from the house). FOR WHAT??? Couldn't you just fall like that? And so it is in almost every film of his..... Yes, also this stupid signature blow of his “spun fist” - well, someone finally tell him that this has long been uncool and stop shoving it into every film of yours!)

    > the last 10 years, in which there would be normal realistic fights, and not rope flying games

New Police Story, SPL, Flash, Fatal Contact, Invisible Target, Wing Chun Series, Ip Man. Probably missed them.

    > and show fights like “At Execution” and “Tiger Cage” will more than be able to, look at the relatively recent fight in FLASH, Donnie is in great shape now

We must not forget that the Outbreak happened four years ago. Maybe he was in great shape then. After that, where were the great fight scenes? The only exception is Ip Man (in which he worked in the Wing Chun style, where relatively other styles do not require special physical training)

    Author's gravatar

Elvin Donny is in excellent shape, and he can more than show fights like “At Execution” and “Tiger Cage”, look at the relatively recent fight in FLASH, Donny is in excellent shape now. So it is quite possible to expect this fight, because Jaa and Ian at the same time wanted to make a film together, before Jaa left for the monastery

    > Hong Kong martial arts cinema has deteriorated terribly....

    I agree, there is.

    > the last 10 years, in which there would be normal realistic fights, and not rope flying games

Dude, of course there is. You went a little too far and said no. There are few of them, but they exist. ;)

The problem of Hong Kong cinema is that now there are almost no skilled young actors-fighters, and those who were in the golden times are no longer young at all. But the desire to use cables where they are not needed at all is, yes, a problem...

Hong Kong cinema with martial arts has deteriorated terribly.... Tell me at least one film of the last 10 years in which there would be normal realistic fights, and not rope flying games? maybe I missed something?

    Author's gravatar

I meant that before becoming a monk I gained weight... and after that I hope I didn’t overeat there but trained

    Author's gravatar

I think Sammo will take Jaa's approach to cables into account and not use them. Still, I see that Sammo is a reasonable person and takes staging fights seriously (even too seriously).
    My opinion, of course.

    Author's gravatar

Yes, in Ip Man 2 all the actors are aged. And Tony Jaa is so young that there’s no comparison. The problem is that in Hong Kong, when it comes to kung fu films, young actors fade into the background. I don't mean the likes of Nicholas Tse, Andy On, etc. For some reason, they don’t give normal roles to Wu Jing, Sammy Hungg (finally at least one “Choy Li Fut”), Phillip Ng, Hungg Yu.

Donnie Yen is no longer the same as he was in Line of Duty 4. Therefore, you can't expect good fight scenes between Tony and Donny.

    Author's gravatar

Like a fresh breath of water in the dry Sahara desert. TONY we are looking forward to the comeback!!!

P.S. I agree Sammo is not quite suitable for Jaa, let’s even look at Ip Man 2, with all the variety of fights and excellent stunts, we still see not the realism of such fights, which is why we like Jaa so much, but something mixed with the traditional Chinese approach to combat staging, bordering on modern staging fights.

I just dream that Jaa will stage a fight with Donnie Yen, but on condition that Jaa remains the same as we saw him in Honor of the Dragon and Donnie Yen in the films Cage of the Tiger and In Execution 4. Then I think in my opinion this will be the most coveted fight in film history.

Jah is back - it's a holiday. EvilDollaR, I don’t think that Tony will use cables, most likely he will improve the physical. form and will not give up his principles. After all, this is the distinctive highlight of Jah.

    Author's gravatar

I agree with protvin. With all due respect to Sammo, I think that he should not be allowed to choreograph for Tony. And Tony needs to develop in his Thai style, he has already tried his hand at kung fu in Ong Bak 2 - this is quite enough.

    Author's gravatar

and in general it’s interesting that he trained there in the temple, according to ong bak 3 and the photo...it’s clear that he gained weight...that means he didn’t train...
maybe it will be the same)

according to ong bak 3 and photo...it’s clear that he’s gained weight..

The photo was taken before monasticism. I haven't seen any fresh ones yet.

In all of Sammo's films, it is clearly visible that his weight does not in any way affect his fighting qualities.

It may not affect his fighting qualities, but they couldn’t have filmed the scene with the fight on the table in “Ip Man” without cables (Sammo will simply outweigh Donnie, and the table will tip over).

    Author's gravatar

Who said that Sammo's time has passed? It’s just that now he choreographs fight scenes in films where rope kung fu is exactly what is required. Take for example "Three Kingdoms" or "Detective Dee". No matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to do it there without ropes. The genre of the film itself requires this and the actors are not the type to fight without ropes.
People like Tony Jaalearned from people like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung.

      Author's gravatar

What if Tony comes out of the monastery with the proportions of “skinny” Sammo? Then you can’t do without steel cables =)

    Author's gravatar

why did they choose Sammo as a choreographer...in this matter, Tony is cooler...Sammo's time has passed...
I hope there won't be any cash...
I hope...Tony won't be in this project at all...
He needs to go to Hollywood to see Tarantino...
and do something like kill him...

    Finally Tony Jaa is back)))))

I agree with you about Tony. Speaking of Sammo, he has "gotten bad." Remembering his RICKSHAW, EASTERN CONDORS, SNACK ON WHEELS, FICTIONAL MARRIAGE... one wonders with boundless admiration!
Almost many old kung fu actors remember this GOLDEN time when the fights were real. Of course, cables were used, but not like they are now.
And Tony Ja's trick is his authenticity!
If Hong Kong, then he needs to start with Donnie Yen or Jackie. Jackie knows how to use the cable correctly in Hong Kong. A NEW POLICE STORY confirms this. Clear, tough, interesting and with cables. Donny experiments sometimes, but he has a clear style. Of course I'm talking about modern action films. Tony had a good break with Tom Yum Goong. He needed to go international, as Bruce, Jackie and Samo did in their time. Then the level will be different and the films will be different.
Panna Ritikray is an excellent fighter and choreographer, but he will never go beyond Asia, stewing in his own juice. Maybe he doesn't need it? Maybe. But that's a completely different story...

    Great news!
True, I’m somehow not sure about the Hong Kong project, especially with Sammo Hung... in the sense that this is necessary at all. In all the recent films with Sammo, where he starred and where he staged fights, cables were mercilessly used... and in such a way that such fights personally made me feel disgusted. And Tony Jaa with cables is not Tony Jaa, even if he is Tony Jaa)). My opinion, of course...

    Author's gravatar

Indeed.... GREAT news!!! I am sure that the Hong Kong industry will take Tony into circulation. And finally they will film the promised VANGUARD together with Donnie Yen!

But why hasn’t the VKO DVD surfaced yet?
Has anyone noticed him on the internet?
I don't want to watch VCD.

I don't want to watch VCD.

Red Eagle is on DVD, Yamada - The Samurai of Ayothaya is, but VKO is not :( It's a shame...

As for Tony, he could have gone international earlier. level only with the permission of "Sahamongkola" (due to the contract). If the contract ends, he will have complete freedom of choice. If only the Chinese didn’t “plant” him on cables, otherwise I’ll be very upset.

    Author's gravatar

Well, until Tony returns, let's watch the leaked VCD of the film Bangkok knockout. After BKO, Jaa needs to try very hard with his new film, otherwise the arrogant youth has raised the bar for Thai action cinema nowhere higher.

Thank you very much for the news!

Sammo? Cool. ))) And Tony’s comeback is excellent. )))

The third "Ong Bak" turned out to be even more nauseating...
