Tony Jaaa and Gija Yanin will star in the action movie Tom-Yum-Goong 2

Tony Jaaa, who, to the delight of the fans (and me :) has already left the monastery, yesterday, April 26th, together with Somsak Techaratanaprasert, head of a Thai film company “Sahamongkolfilm International”, director Laundry Pinkayu and fight director Pannui Rittikrai, took part in a press conference dedicated to the start of filming of a new action movie “Tom-Yum-Goong 2”. A sequel to the 2005 film, released in English-speaking countries under the title "Protector" (Defender), will be filmed in the format 3D.

Company “Sahamongkol” stated that the budget will be THB 300 million and the film will be released next year.

Prachya Pinkayu, who filmed the first “Ong-Bak” и “Tom-Yum-Goong”, will sit in the director's chair, and Panna Rittikrai will choreograph fights and lead a team of stuntmen.

For the first time with Tony Jaaa another star will appear on the screen (and in a rather large role) “Sahamongkol” - “Jija” Yanine Vismistananda, who has recently starred in films "Jakkalan" и "The Kick". Also, don't forget about the action movie “Chocolate 2” (Chocolate 2), which will be filmed, again, in such a popular format today as 3D.

Comedian present at the press conference Petchtai Wongkamlao и Dan Chupong (Chupong Chaprung). It is possible that they will also take part in the work on “Tom-Yum-Goong 2”.

This news “dismisses” the version that Tony Jaaa decided to hide in the monastery until the contract with “Sahamongkolfilm International”, but here is a joint project with Sammo Hungg, which was recently rumored, has apparently been postponed until better times.

Considering that individual works Tony Jaaa (Ong-Bak 2, Ong-Bak 3) and Prachyi Pinkayu (White Elephant) were not very popular with the fans, then their old duet, or rather the trio (if we add Rittikrai), on the contrary, can greatly please all fans of high-quality Thai action films.

On the Facebook page of the Jij fansite, news appeared that the rights to distribute Tom-Yum-Goong 2 had already been sold to companies from India, Taiwan and Singapore, and Jakkalan had already been purchased by more than 10 countries.

SAX CABLES! And it doesn’t matter at all who is hanging on them - the great and terrible Donnie Yen or Tony Jaaa.
The decision to give up on rope Hong Kong and stir up a new TYG in the old proven company is the most correct thing that could have been done. Of course, you can screw up, since the first film set the bar sooooo high... but there is still more chance of a good movie than all the other options combined.

In general, we'll wait and see)

Well, that's enough already. Tony Jaaa will also be hanging on the ropes in a couple of years.

ONG BAK 2 has great mixed fights! The scenes are different from the first part.
The ending is really good. Unlike Ong Bak 3.
They invited Dan Chupong and what... they did complete garbage!
The fighting is weak. Both in terms of choreography and in terms of power.
There was a similar zilch in Shanghai Knights, where Jackie clashed with Donnie. Everyone was waiting for this fight! And what did we see? One disappointment!!!
And Tony needs to work with Donnie Yen. Of course he uses a cable, but he does it well. Unlike my colleagues.
In the end, he can make a list of the fact that this is still the “real” Tony Jaaa!

AlterNatiV Personally, for me, in Ong Bak the second, the last battle is (IMHO) the best thing I’ve seen on the screen.

I don't know why you don't like ong bak 2...
at the end I really liked the fights at ong bak level 1 and dragon honor...
especially where the elephant was used for parkour elements and in general the fight was unusually long... that’s all you think... but then new ninjas jump out.
The movie itself sucks, of course... but I put the fights on the same level...
in 3, of course, there are practically no fights... 5 minutes at most and a couple of moments...

Yes, there is almost no information. They say that soon (who knows when) this program will be shown on TV in Thailand, through special set-top boxes for TV and via VOD it will be possible to watch (what exactly will be there is still unknown, I hope we will see it too, but we can’t even hope for translation , hike).
Attach: I think to this news, because we will not see the program itself soon, as it seems to me.

Yes, but there is practically no description for the video, and I don’t know where to attach it. Is that for this news...

    filming will start in July

I don’t know how the filming process works in Thailand (and throughout the world), but ALL films with BI went through a long preparation in terms of fight choreography (fight design). I won’t look far for an example - BKO - they spent 1 year developing stunts and fights. As if this rush to start filming TUG2 didn’t backfire. Maybe they will start filming non-combat episodes, and at this time they will come up with fights and then film the combat episodes, but it seems that they have not done this before. In general, let's see, Prachya and Panna have a LOT of work to do to outdo TUG. For this it is not necessary, I would even say that it is absolutely not necessary to repeat what they did in the first part (4 minutes in one take, jumping on a helicopter, giants, crunching the bones of 70 people...), Panna (and his team) , which is why I like it so much, in each film it brings something new in battles - action. Every film is something new. So we wait.
Offtopic: Alexander, did you receive my message with the link? If not, I can send it again.

Oh, it was a shame that Tony refused to cooperate with Hong Kong!
There he will delve into the Thai caves.
Someone said above that the stunts will be in the spirit of the first film. And for what?
Does everyone really like reruns that much?
There was ONG BAK, there was Tom Yum Gung, and why do repetitions.
Tony has a good opportunity to bring a fresh breath, but no... Part two. Rave!

      Author's gravatar

Trying not to repeat himself and filming the second “Ong-Bak”, he already gave the fans a “fresh breath”, and how did it end?.. Did you want something new? So we got it, but many people didn’t like the result...

The main thing is that Panna should look after him and come up with tougher and more creative fights.

If we talk about Hong Kong, then I (this is my double personal IMHO) don’t want him to star there, or rather, I don’t want him to star in films where they abuse wires, graphics and all sorts of bullshit with which you can make even a crooked / bow-legged popsary martial arts star. And this doesn't only apply to Hong Kong. It’s another matter if Sammo staged the fights with Tony in mind, then I would have watched it with pleasure. But this is unlikely to happen; China has a different approach to stunts and fights...

On one of the sites they wrote that filming will begin in July, and mainly in Thailand, and not on the road.

    Author's gravatar

who was the choreographer in ong bak?

    Author's gravatar

    :-D
Looks like someone hasn't survived yet.

Offtopic: Sanya, how do you like the video? (if you received the message)

    Author's gravatar

Great news! Tony Jaaa welcomes back to cinema!!! I really want famous movie actors to participate again!! I wonder if Nathan Jones will be called in for the sequel.. In the first film he remained alive but with a broken arm!))) What am I talking about, everyone there survived!!!)))

      Author's gravatar

Not all :). A transvestite let one older elephant go for meat and bones...

Imagine Tony and Yaninka making their way to the 25th floor (25 minutes without cuts), entering the doors and shouting: “Where are our elephants!” And the evil villains answer them: “What kind of elephants? There is a 25th floor without an elevator with a narrow flight of stairs!!! We only have turtles”...

    Author's gravatar

The main thing is that he returned!

Of course, otherwise there were already rumors that we wouldn’t see him again at all.

but I liked the fights of Ong Bak 3, although they were reimagined... I just needed to do more and show it to a friend

And initially they wanted to do a lot of action, and the battles should have been completely different, but it didn’t work out :(

    Author's gravatar

I'm sorry...yes, ritikrai was also a choreographer in the first part...

yes, he seems to have lost weight..))... let him train properly so that he can break a real yard lamp post))
but I liked the fights of Ong Bak 3, even though they were re-imagined... I just had to do more and show it to my friend... Tony Jaaa put it together like the director did...
Prachya will correct the mistakes) I hope the action is staged.

    Author's gravatar

The main thing is that he returned!

    Author's gravatar

I also think I've lost weight.

    Author's gravatar

Panna was the fight choreographer in the first part, as was Tony. So I even began to wonder: this time Jaa will not take part in the staging of the action fights at all, or will they still trust him with something? After OB3 with Nattayut - I don’t think so.

      Author's gravatar

I am also against 3D, let them leave it for Thai melodramas and horror films.

As for the ryakhi, here you go, compare: :)

      The very beginning of monasticism

      Tony Jaaa monk

      After monasticism

      Tony Jaaa smiles

Compare forearms. Somehow it seems to me that, on the contrary, he has lost a little weight. Or it seemed...

    Author's gravatar

    good news!!!!
Regarding 3D, I agree that conversion ruins cinema... but only for cinemas...
You never know, we’ll be showing it in the cinema. So there’s no need to worry about it...for now.
I didn’t like the fact that Panna would be the choreographer; it would be better if Tony himself held court over the bad guys...and why?! in the first one they managed without him... and it was a hundred times cooler than in the knockout... no matter how he ruined everything.
I hope there will be no ropes, but the fact that JiJa and Chupong are still those rope stuntmen...
I hope Tony will train his horse to be even worse than before... and won’t disappoint us...
    Let's wait for 2012...

    Author's gravatar

AHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Cretoshadow! Great news! I hope with this lineup they will again make a decent movie like the first Ong Bak and Tom Young Gun!

And Tony, yes, he really did eat away the rash))

    Author's gravatar

Hurray!!! Tony is back! And such an announcement. I did not expect. The first Tom-Yum-Goong was awesome!

    Author's gravatar

In Asia, their fashion has gone to 3D. They probably want to try it, see what comes of it, although it’s clear it’s not good.
But I thought that his next project would be with Donnie or Sammo. In general, it's a pity.

    Author's gravatar

    3D what the heck.
    It only ruins films.
But the fact that Yanin will be together with Tony in one film pleases my cinephile soul very, very much. :)
Although I see Tony ate some good food in the monastery.

    Author's gravatar

I am so happy about this amazing news. Such a personality and such talent should definitely drive a couple of “stakes” into the history of cinema. Tom-Yum-Goong, and even with a penny and a washerwoman, how could we have dreamed of such a thing?

Thank you Evil for such amazing news.

    Author's gravatar

HA, exactly, thanks. What a cool coincidence ;)

    Author's gravatar

I see this is above the Thai version of the name. A coincidence, and all because of the font chosen for the logo - ต้มยำกุ้ง2

    Author's gravatar

I don’t know if it’s funny or not, it was in the first title of the film. Look at the third screen: on the poster after TYG there is LOL in small letters and then the name is either in Thai, or Thai mixed with English letters upside down and there are even mirrored ones :-D

    Author's gravatar

It would be better to shoot without 3D in order to properly implement the budget. To be honest, I still have a hard time imagining why 3D is needed in films with BI, in particular why does Chocolate 2 and TUG 2 need it. Apparently a tribute to fashion (probably without 3D a film is no longer a film at all :) ) Regarding Jidge: Todd is on Twitch he explained well why she was needed, but it would be better if Dan Chupong were the 2nd main character. About the musclemen: it is far from a fact that they will be in the film; Panna does not like to repeat himself in battles.

    Author's gravatar

This is pseudo-3D. These are not three-dimensional backgrounds and effects, but ordinary stereo, which they like to call the 3D format. If you add high-quality computer “backdrops”, then they definitely won’t have enough money.

Ilya, what’s the joke with LOL? I didn't notice it in the logo on the poster.

    Author's gravatar

Great news, I hope Tony is in shape and the stunts will be in the spirit of the first film. Plus Prachya is the director and Panna is the choreographer - everything is the same as in the first part, this is only pleasing. I’m not sure whether the 3D format will benefit the picture. It is highly not recommended to use computer graphics in such a film, otherwise it can be ruined. IMHO, but Gija Yanin shouldn’t act with Tony. No matter how fragile the girl looks very impressive against the jocks.

    Author's gravatar

The budget is just big for Thai cinema. All because of the 3D format. The first part had a budget of 1 million baht.
By the way, does anyone know what LOL means in the title of the film, just don’t say that this is the same one :-D

    Author's gravatar

    Thanks for the translation.

      Author's gravatar

If only someone could translate it from Thai... ;) There are quotes from the press conference.

    Author's gravatar

Isn't the budget too small for 3D? Yeah, they'll convert him later like Harry Potter...
