"Time does not wait" (Time Rush). Opinion about the film

It was a deal EvilDollaR wrote about the filming of the film with a promising young stuntman Dean Alexandrou starring. The plot was about a guy who is stuck in a mysterious time loop, and for some reason some bad people are chasing him, and all this is accompanied by fights and stunts, and he periodically dies - and then everything starts all over again...

In general, the idea was not very original, but potentially interesting. This could make a good action-packed action movie. And I took note of that project. Oh yes, then it was called reflex.

However, more and more time passed since the announcement of the completion of filming, and no new news about the project appeared. Well, I forgot about him.

But for some reason I remembered a month ago. And I decided to look for new information about Dean Alexandrou and his Reflex. And yet I found it. True, as it turned out, the film is now called Time Rush. But it is finished and even came out on video. Those interested can find and watch.

I watched. I share my opinion.

First, about the plot that Alexandrou himself came up with. I will say this, Dean is much better at performing stunts than writing scripts. No, well, of course, I’ve seen a hell of a lot of low-budget action films and outright trash. As are many here, however. I’m used to banality and clichés in films of this kind, I take them for granted, I don’t even consider them a serious flaw. All these secret laboratories, illegal experiments on people, special drugs that expand human capabilities to inhuman limits, evil soldiers with brick faces. All this has been seen and re-seen many times. Yes, and time loops too. But honestly, Alexandrou shouldn’t have taken on non-linear storytelling, this trick is clearly beyond his capabilities. It takes a certain talent to build a complex yet consistent plot and explain the logic of the characters’ actions. Experienced Hollywood screenwriters often have problems with this. But Time Rush is in complete trouble with the logic of the plot and the adequacy of the characters.

Another problem with the script is that it is short. The entire film lasts 85 minutes, and, taking into account the opening and closing credits, the actual action fits into 77 or 78 minutes. But even for this modest timing there was not enough original material that made sense to the plot. And all because the author did not have enough imagination to properly fit the characters into the story. Therefore, some scenes are simply repeated three or four times. Of course, it's a time loop. But showing the same footage over and over again is stupid.

I can't say anything about the acting. There's just nothing. Due to its complete absence. There is either indifference, or falsehood, or obscene antics with bulging eyes. That's just Byron Gibson I didn’t spoil my scenes.

I cannot judge the technical aspects. I will only note that the movie looks very cheap, and the rare attempts to give an original angle do not cause admiration. Musical accompaniment in the style of Albert Pyun's paintings only deepens the impression of trashiness.

And finally, about the main thing. About why I decided to watch this movie. About the action.

There is a lot of fighting here. And it seems like everyone is fighting. Even Selina Lo. Although she really shouldn’t have shown her kung fu. Because it turned out to be extremely unconvincing. Byron Gibson shoved someone there once, and that looked more believable.

There are three main fighters: Dean Alexandrou, Ron Smoorenburg и Kecha Kampakdi. All three have fights both against multiple opponents and one on one. Made well, but nothing more. Fights with multiple opponents look a bit hectic and confusing. Alexandrou's fight against Kampakdi ended unexpectedly quickly, but obviously that's how it was supposed to end. There were several skirmishes between Alexandrou and Smurenburg, again all short-lived. The last one, near the temple, was better than the others, but also did not cause delight. The funniest thing was the fight between Alexandrou and two Thai chefs.

Dean Alexandrou also demonstrates parkour. Well, or how he imagines it. Again, nothing supernatural, nothing that can shake the imagination.

Briefly speaking. The movie turned out bad. Not catastrophically bad, just underdeveloped throughout. You can even watch it once without spitting in disgust. Unless, of course, you have eighty minutes to spare and don’t know what to do with them. But then it would be more honest for this film to be called Time-killer.

The author apparently got greedy. The action here is excellent! Good dynamics, original angles, appropriate changes of shots, nothing superfluous, editing does not interfere with the spectacle, excellent complex stunts that action stars of the 90s never even dreamed of.
Yes, the plot, the film, the “play” of the actors, the cheap visuals can be assessed as “bad”, and this spoils the impression, and, apparently, in a spoiled mood from these aspects, the author of the opinion ruined the action.

From me a solid 4.5 out of 5 points for the action. For the rest - 2...

It's a pity, it's a pity. After the trailer I was impressed: wow! I want to see it!

Thanks for the review and warning. Of the recent trash S-sheks, for me so far the best is “Street Fighter” by Moller, because 98% of the action.

A long time ago, I filled the profile of this film with information on KP through feedback. We'll have to take a look.
