I agree with a lot, but not everything is suitable for the silver screen. You have to understand that for the film you need to rework many movements.
From everything I have seen performed by silat masters, their movements seem more refined than Yuwais’s in the movies.

What I saw about penchak (after the corresponding film, I was curious and went to YouTube to watch science-pop and pro performances) - it is quite difficult to master and, IMHO, there is quite a lot of unnecessary, unnecessary movements. Everyone criticizes Iko for moving too fussily, as if at the same time he was fighting, he was driving away a swarm of wasps. Meanwhile, this is approximately what pencak silat looks like in the form that I saw. And in the raid, they also depicted combat in an applied sense. Those. when there is no time to show off classic stances and movements.

I think they were trying to do an experiment, something like see if they could get the aesthetics right.

The guys should have gotten acquainted with the film itself before filming. Even their Pencak Silat stance turned out wrong.

I said to Raymond: Why are you looking sideways at me? )))

    - Exactly! Vanya loves to joke. And probably with his foot, a couple of times near his nose, whack whack... he drove away the flies.

What happened to him in Hong Kong during his dialogue with Raymond Chow that he was kicked out of there and put on the Ban List?

Van Damme, of course, managed to lead the genre to progress and regression at the same time, like Peter I.

    - And in a fairly short time.

But history could have taken a different path.

Yes, I remember when Daniels and Jeanness meet in the air. This moment always bothered me too.

    - Here you go. I tried cutting off the excess. It looks very clear. Although Irit Raz always seemed to edit Isaac's films perfectly, he overdid it with the editing. There are a lot of extra shots there. But there are simply amazing cuts, moving, for example, from a character falling to another opponent with the camera zooming in. Effective. Good old fashioned hit-and-run, but it still “works”!
Sometimes I look at all this and think - It would be better if I didn’t know all this. You sit in the editing room and look at what’s behind the background, and what kind of nonsense came out on the left or right, and why everything is askew and crooked at times... In general, it’s creepy!
It's all Van Damme's fault and Jackie's saying that he does all the stunts himself.
After Vanya’s understudies and Jackie’s statement, everything went crazy. I can no longer watch movies in peace.
The peak of course for me was the news that in my favorite PROJECT A, 3 people fell from the chapel in different frames. To the finish line!

)) Yes, that's my way of saying it. “Ip Man 1” is also on cables, and it looks good too.

    - Yes. The main thing is to use it wisely. And it's still good to glue.
And the other day I rewatched REBEL with Geri, and the final fall of the negative character in the final fight was horribly put together. Apparently they wanted to show that he flies forward and flies back after the impact... but it just looked terrible.

In general, I very often analyze many fights and stunts in the editing studio.

Well, in Donnie VS Kollinparu, cables were also used. For example, when they both fell from the second floor.

    - what about the cables.... the finale is GREAT, almost all on cables with Jackie, how it looks!

It doesn’t seem like cables, but it’s the same feeling.

Just watched this video. Essentially, the choreography, editing and camera angles are not much worse than Raid 2. And the blow at 2:00 will be even cooler.

Although the kennel videos along the way are pure party bacchanalia.

The sadly photoshopped pictures on the official pages (and in the teaser!) - what a bacchanalia. The kennel is just mutual PR.

That's the problem with stars. They are not allowed to relax. Stars are people too and they can also fool around not to their full potential, etc. But everyone looks at videos of fooling around through the prism of “this is togetonism!!!” and conclude that Tony has gone bad.
This is regardless of the second Tyug. For which Tony gets a special shout out. And not only to Tony.
Ps I updated the previous comment, if anything.

Pps Oh, and another common complaint: one opponent fell and sometimes was knocked down. The second one picks it up and then continues to knead it. Damn, even Jacobs has it in Death Grip! Two are fighting with knives, one threw the other into the wall and instead of finishing him off with a knife from above, he picked it up and they continued to knead. So in this video 1:50, for example. Fuck it!

And I liked it. Not a masterpiece, but a cheerful, dynamic fight, no one was tempted to say “come on, hit me, I’m waiting,” no one hit past or not at full strength. There is both technology and speed... Let's just say that the installation was tolerably sped up.
Agree, this is better than Jah’s videos for the royal kennel, etc., which were published here before the release of the second Tyug.

    - that's for sure!!!

Ps What personally cut me (such moments hurt my eyes in the films of Donnie Yen and co.) is at 1:25. One jumps and swings to hit. The second one, seeing this, rushed towards him and grabbed him across the body and threw him away. But while he was swaying and slipping there, the first one should have reached and hit him long ago.
One of my favorite scenes is the fight between Donnie Yen and Collin Chow in Hot Spot. The realism, cruelty and technique are off the charts. Everything is cool, but a couple of times such editing artifacts happen, and all realism goes to hell. It doesn’t seem like cables, but it’s the same feeling.

At 1.33 there is some crap with the editing.

    - There is an unpredictable insertion, diluting at least a little the monotonous action. In my opinion, very fresh breath.

      Author's gravatar

I call this “castration of the post-effect of a blow.” %) A similar sin was committed in the sequel “District 13”.

For their efforts, the kids can get a record - GOOD! And even excellent for the shots at 1.33 and 2.00 minutes.
Such a modest showreel on working with limbs. Not outstanding, but not bad either.
All the same disadvantages in terms of cinematography and dramaturgy.
By the way, the installation is quite good in some places.
The result is that the boys essentially learned to fight and sometimes fall. For the shelf - 4. For release into the network - 3.

I don’t quite understand about RAID. At times the fight reminded me of a Hong Kong movie.
Still, once again I catch myself thinking that pencak silat is inferior to Tai Boran in terms of entertainment and effectiveness.
Probably the comparison comes automatically. Because, as they say, two portraits from one newspaper. Or rather, from the same wilds of Asia.
