Sundance 2014: first impressions of The Raid 2: Berandal

The most anticipated film of 2014 premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this evening, or at least that's what most people here on Twitch think, and let's just say the sequel doesn't disappoint. The Raid 2, with a running time of two and a half hours, significantly expands the universe created by Gareth Evans in the first Raid film. Thanks to this expansion, there is a lot more room for creativity, we see a lot more action on the screen and a lot much MUCH more violence. This film is not for the faint of heart. In fact, on one occasion the session had to be paused and the lights turned on so that one person who had lost consciousness could be escorted out of the hall (he ended up leaving on his own two feet).

We'll be publishing a full review very soon, but as the end credits roll, we'd like you to have an idea of what's in store for you now.

Apart from the rampant violence, the most distinctive part of the film is the depth of its storyline. There is a very complex plot in which there are three crime syndicates, a government, several levels of various setups and tricks. I would be lying if I said that after one session I completely understood everything, but the feeling that they were trying to deliberately confuse you never arose.

But the leading role in the film went to martial arts, and, my God, there are so many of them on the screen. Those who liked the smashed heads and knees from the first film will be even more pleased. Get ready... this movie will blow your mind. And now I want to review it.

Clarification from Evans:

The poor guy passed out from dehydration, not from the movie. Fortunately, he is fine now.

Raid 2 will destroy all the action movies coming out this year, I believe. The Expendables 3 with Honor of the Dragon 2 will be smoking on the sidelines (I'm a fan of The Expendables and all Tony Jaa's films)? This is great!

“Raid 2” devoted all its opponents to the campaign: what is clearly better than “Special Person” is already clear, and judging by the not very good reviews of “Honor of the Dragon 2”, even that one is far behind. We are waiting for March and in the cinema

Here is a soccer ball, in "Raid 2" they used baseballs. :) And when will this Thai “Fireball” come out?

I'm not looking forward to the movie. The trailer didn't "put in". Reviews on the network - the situation with Reid is repeated. Again hysteria, again a very high score on imdb, but I don’t see anything interesting/new for myself in this film. It came out about 10 years ago...
No matter how many people brand TYAG2, some battles were “inserted” there, there were new ideas. The fight in the subway is the best fight in the last 3 years. Yes, more like Bollywood, but so what. I liked it, and that's the main thing. Despite all the film's shortcomings.

The review is interesting, but there are plenty of spoilers. Should I translate or wait for someone else? I would like to know your opinion.
