The film premiered on January 19th in Beijing. "Monkey King" (The Monkey King). Attending the premiere Joe Chen, Aaron Kwok, Chow Yun-fat, Donnie Yen и Xia Zitong. The production of this fantasy action film lasted three years. During this time, huge sums were spent on special effects development by 1900 experts from Hollywood and six other countries (in total, only 2 percent of the 2400 scenes did not use special effects). Total budget "The Monkey King" amounted to 500 million yuan (82,6 million US dollars).
Studio "Filmko" hopes to gross 1 billion yuan (165 million US dollars), but the producer Liu Xiaoguang noted that if box office receipts on the Chinese mainland do not exceed the 800 million yuan (132 million US dollars) mark, there can be no talk of any income.
Among other things, it became known that last week lawyers "Shanghai Animation Film Studio" sent a warning letter to manufacturers accusing "Filmko" in plagiarism and demand not to use the font design in the headers of the character posters, since the copyright for the fonts belongs to the animation studio and designer Yan Dingxian. "Shanghai Animation Film Studio" also sent letters to some major Chinese cinemas asking them not to start releasing until the differences are resolved.
Film producer's response Liu Xiaoguang:
“The animated film came out in 1964, and the 50-year copyright was about to expire. The cartoon inspired us, and the use of the font design is not plagiarism, but a tribute. We are currently negotiating and hope that this will not affect the release date.”
In China, the film is scheduled to be released in wide release on January 31, 2014.

thank you...it’s clear that nothing is clear))
It is not known anywhere. The creators were busy working on other films, so Re-Kill was abandoned. At the end of 2013 they were supposed to return and continue post-production (although there seems to be NO confirmation that they returned and finished it), the film THEORETICALLY should be released this year, but when... no one knows. + the delay is possible due to the fact that the creators want to release the film in theaters and not directly on DVD.
EvilDollaR I’ll still ask a question that makes me very ashamed, but still curiosity and fanaticism take over... when and where can I watch Re-kill? Now, due to work and being very busy, there is no way to follow Scott... the last news I heard was about “Hercules”... but not about “Reboot”... you can clarify the information about the timing and resources. Thank you in advance!
One suspects that Donny will have to change his mind about "no more Monkey Kings." With such success, I can imagine what kind of fee he might demand for himself in the second part... and the producers will agree. =)
The Monkey King became the first hundred millionaire of 2014. Already collected 136 million.
Funny coincidence - 1,36 billion Chinese and 136 million revenue :)
Some sources have reported that the sequel will begin filming in August of this year.
Happy for Donny and Chow Yun Fat.
The box office receipts are not bad, the director is already thinking about making a sequel.
It seems to me that on the contrary he has become younger. =) The man is 58 years old!
And Chow Yun-Fat has aged...
Honestly: from all the trailers the film seems like a cartoon. It’s clear that this is fantasy, but it’s too animated...
I’m not really waiting. But such a huge budget makes me wait.
I didn't think the movie was that big. Is anyone looking forward to the movie?
