Scott Adkins. Questions and answers. Part two

In addition to previously published news, I suggest you read several dozen answers Scott Adkins to old and new questions from fans.

1. I can’t wait to learn more about your acting talents... How did you manage to transform into your character... Was there a real-life prototype for the character of Yuri Boyk? And what did you have to go through to become like [him]?

Scott Adkins: Thank you for the high praise. I guess Boyka was modeled after Chuck Lydell, but it didn't quite happen the way you'd imagine. I showed up to the set with long hair and a thick beard, and together with Isaac and our female makeup artist, we shaved the beard and trimmed the head as best we could into something that resembled a “bad guy” look. We experimented with rotten teeth and other things, but it was clearly too much. We just wanted me to look “bad.”

I think it's easier to change yourself physically and hide behind a character rather than playing someone more like yourself. When you get dressed and don't look at yourself in the mirror, it gives you more confidence in creating an image. Of course, the accent helps and, mainly, the added dimensions. Surprisingly, when you're a big guy, people treat you differently. My character in Ninja is not like that at all. He is soft-spoken and rather naive. I even played his role when I was older than him, so it will be interesting to see if people react to the role or just want to see me as the “tough guy”!

Thanks Scott.

2. How to learn to hit the Guyver kick?

Scott Adkins: Okay, guys. The only way to land this blow is to fully accept the fact that you will have to land on your back. This is the only way it can be done correctly. When you throw a spinning and tuck kick, you need to make sure that the bottom leg is tucked in close to the groin. If you gain enough height and turn your body on its side, you will be able to look at your target at the moment when the first leg flies higher, and then the second leg sharply accelerates with a blow at the right time. It is best to train on a soft floor, since you will have to try more than once. I've seen this kind of kick thrown and landed [on the feet], but I think it looks too dirty.

PS I won't have much work for the next couple of weeks, I'm busy with treatment, so ask me questions about training and other things.

3. Thanks, buddy, can I ask about something else too? Of course, not about your recent films, which you can’t talk too much about.
Have you listened to the latest new Oasis songs “The Shock Of The Lightning” and “Falling Down”? I think this has already become offtopic. Also, were you injured on the set of “Ninja”? Looks like you had a hard time.

Scott Adkins: Oasis remains my favorite band, I grew up listening to the music and continue to buy all their albums. I have “Falling Down” and it's a great song. All my friends are going to their concert at the NEC in Birmingham, maybe I'll even try going myself.

“Ninja” was not an easy film for me. I arrived two days after finishing work on “The Wolverine” with a painful shoulder injury sustained on set. I have never had to work so hard in my entire life, I continued to persevere to make each fight scene as complex and long as possible. But the schedule was very tight, and I had to constantly run from the first crew to the second. Somehow it seemed to me that I was getting a new injury every day. Here is the list:

  • Sprained ankle ligaments
  • Two bruised heels
  • Dislocated knee
  • Bruising on the thighs
  • Dislocated wrist
  • Black eye
  • Bruise on forehead
  • Injured thumb
  • Injured elbow
  • Neck injury

And the worst part was that I hurt my back from falling on the floor too often. It's nothing compared to Jackie Chan, but it was enough to make me think twice about rolling out of bed every morning. But, as they say, the pain will pass, but the film will remain for centuries.

4. Holy crap, I didn’t think you were on the forums, Mr. Adkins, that’s cool. You must be the one celebrity who interacts with your fans the most. I don't think Jackie Chan or Tony Jaa go on fan sites and talk to people.

Scott Adkins: Man, I try not to do this too much or it may seem like I'm enjoying my narcissism, but I appreciate your interest in my work, and since I'm free now, I'm happy about it.

5. You said that we can ask you various questions about training. I'm currently training hard because my friends and I are making amateur martial arts videos. I have already reached the level of Van Damme and everything where you need a perfect split/stretch. But what I really want is to master aerial tricks, which is why I'm asking about the Guyver Kick. Someday I will make it and film it on video. Oh, and also, how did you manage to pump up such cool abdominal muscles in “Undisputed 2”??? Also, what is the best weight if I'm 6'1 and trying to build the same awesome muscles as you? Here, take a look at this YouTube video of me doing a kip-up: youtube.com/watch?v=E97ejI1W5lU. Not the best job, but I like it. Who knows, maybe one day I can reach your level, Mr. Adkins.

Scott Adkins: You need to work on your high jumps, plyometric exercises are good for that. The longer you are in the air, the more movements you can make before landing. As for the abdominal muscles, I’m sorry to say this, but I don’t do them separately, probably martial arts and gymnastics do it for me. I'm 5'11" and I weighed 2 or something on the set of Undisputed 91, so I figure a little more weight will be just right for you, but trust me, it's a lot harder to do stunts in the air if you're you weigh more than usual. A good kip-up, if you can land with your arms fully extended in the first part, it will be even better. Keep training, boy.

6. Do you have any information about “Undisputed 3”? I heard that Boyka will be the main character.

Scott Adkins: Boyka is the main character. I'm looking forward to playing Boyk again and humanizing his character a little while also taking the fighting to the next level. We have a great script, but ultimately it will be up to Nu Image whether they want to do it or not. After the success of the second part and with the growing interest in MMA, I will be very upset if they don't agree.

7. Scott, you worked with Van Damme in “Shepherd.” Can you tell us something about Jean-Claude's fighting abilities, is he a fast and tough kicker?

Scott Adkins: I don't think Van Damme was ever fast, Bruce Lee was fast, Donnie Yen was fast. There's no big challenge in being fast, I don't think Tony Jaa is fast, and I certainly don't think I am. Van Damme in his best years was probably the most powerful, I was always attracted to his “clean” kicks, but, to be honest, it seemed to me that he was not physically prepared for “Shepherd”. He's still one of my biggest inspirations, but I think he lost his greatest opportunity to capture great fights, but his name is in the credits, so it's really up to him.

8. Scott, who do you think would be the perfect fighters for Undisputed 3? Can you say something about the actors of “Undisputed 3”, etc.?

Scott Adkins: I would have loved it if Marko Zaror was the main villain. If the role goes to Sam Hargrave, I advise you to pay attention to him, he is great. Nathan Jones, the more the merrier. The script is excellent, in which Boyka faces off against his opponents while being even crazier than he actually is. It's up to Nu Image if and when we make it, but we already have a script.

9. Sincere greetings, Scott!
Glad we can talk directly...
After watching Undisputed 2, I always wanted to ask about how you felt when you tried to play this role... In Undisputed 2, you had to show a different side of yourself... You had to show a lot of anger, cruelty, so... It was easy for you to transform in Yuri Boyk??? Did you just want to show the image of an evil fighter or show the details of Boyk’s character??? Two slightly strange questions... I hope this will not be a burden to you... Which non-fight scene with Boyka did you like most in “Undisputed 2”??. And, what do you think, if Chambers had not been drugged... what would have been the result of the first fight??

Scott Adkins: I think for some unknown reason it was easy to play Boyk, I just wanted to make him a person that the other prisoners in prison would be afraid of. We tried to give the character more noble traits, but several such moments were cut out. I liked the scene where I cut the guy's hand with scissors and then smack him on the head because it made me laugh. In my opinion, once Boyka started using his legs, he would have beaten Chambers, whether he was on drugs or not.

10. Hey Scott, I have a couple of questions that maybe you can answer:

1) How many times a week do you go to the sports hall/gym?
2) What is your favorite and most effective exercise?

I will be in seventh heaven if you answer the questions.

Scott Adkins: I don't want to answer any questions about training because I want to do something related to that in the future, but I typically strength train three times a week.

11. Hello Scott, I hope you are in good health. I realized this... when I watched your training. I'll keep my comments very short... When I watched the trailer for Undisputed 2, your physique became my motivation in trying to achieve the size and flexibility that you have. I bet you guys, my body structure is similar to yours, but my training is still ongoing.
I read your biography. She is very interesting and admires the fact that you have not given up on your goals. Despite the fact that you were unlucky with acting school, you managed to play in the TV series “Mile High”, “Eastenders” and other British soap operas.
I would like to know a little more about your path to success...
(if any of the questions seem too personal to you, you don’t have to answer them)
Who inspired you to become a better fighter?

Scott Adkins: The main inspiration is Bruce Lee, a true fighter who dedicated his entire life to martial arts. I'm sure he was a fighter first and a movie star second. Films were a way for him to spread his own knowledge of Chinese culture and martial arts.

12. What books do you regularly read or have you read in the past?

Scott Adkins: I need to read more, but my passion is movies. Now I’m reading “The Historian” by Elizabeta Kostova, a very good book.

13. Do you follow in someone else's footsteps?

Scott Adkins: I don't start where others left off. I use the knowledge and achievements of other people.

14. What do you do for success, and what is your philosophy of life?

Scott Adkins: Just do everything as best as you can and try every day to do something that will bring you closer to your dreams, without any breaks.

15. At the moment you have some goals, can you mention them?

Scott Adkins: Bigger roles in bigger films.

16. I heard that you would not mind playing the role of James Bond in the future, if given the opportunity. This is true?

Scott Adkins: Yes, of course, but I also wouldn't turn down a role as a villain in a Bond film.

17. During training, ordinary people have bad and good days. How do you keep the desire to exercise during bad days? (maybe a stupid question)

Scott Adkins: If you're having a bad day, just try to do the things that will help you get through it. Knowing that half-hearted training is still better than no training, you can start tomorrow with 100% commitment.

18. Do you prefer a normal diet or protein supplement supplements?

Scott Adkins: The food is better, but I don't shy away from good supplements, mostly because they're more convenient.

19. What movies inspired you to become an action hero, or just inspired you in general? Except for the films of Bruce Lee and Jet Li.

Scott Adkins: “Rocky” and “Rambaud.”

20. How do you cope with your fame as an action hero? What are the positive and negative aspects of it?

Scott Adkins: My life hasn't changed much, I can still remain incognito without bothering.

21. And finally, who do you train with regularly? In the future, will you create your own Boyka training CD or some kind of reference book? If you already have any diet or exercise guidelines, please feel free to pass them along to me, a link or some source.

Scott Adkins: I'm going to do something similar in the future.

You have athletic calves, if you still need to develop them, you’ll just lose them!! but if you want it, bend over on the floor, squat down and start jumping in front, try to push off only with your calves until you feel pain, and in general, muscles grow only when you feel pain.

    Author's gravatar

You need to stretch like this:
    1) first, of course, sit in the splits as much as possible.
    2) If you feel pain, sit a little lower, close your eyes, imagine how your muscles are stretching.
    3) Spend 30 - 70 seconds in this position, then sit even lower and repeat.
    4) If possible, do this further and further, starting with the feeling of more severe pain.
    5) When you do the splits, sit in it every day for 5 minutes. Then do a brutal thing - spend the whole night in the splits. Just sleep in it. Don’t go anywhere in the morning, because you won’t be able to in the first 2 hours.))))))))))))))
in 2 weeks you will do the splits without any pain at all)))))))))))
AND NOW A QUESTION FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People, help, I beg you! How to pump up calves?????????? Adkins's are simply superb. I put a person of my weight on my shoulders, I stand on the nazki 100 times! But they are growing slowly! How to build calves like Adkins? I beg you!!!!!!!!!!!!
