Scott Adkins. Interview with Dave Woodhall

You might not think that an actor who regularly stars alongside some of Hollywood's biggest names and is tipped for big things ahead could live in Birmingham. But Scott Adkins, Sutton Coldfield native, film star "Undeniable" и "The Expendables 2", this is not your typical big screen actor.

He is an experienced martial arts expert and has starred with such big names as Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren и Jean-Claude Van Damme. On top of everything else, as we managed to find out, he is also an ordinary person.

Scott Adkins: I was in Thailand for nine weeks filming Ninja 2, but as soon as I got home I caught a cold.

You've filmed all over the world but still live in Birmingham. Ever thought about possibly moving to Hollywood?

Scott Adkins: I've always lived close to my family and friends. I lived in London for a bit, but I came back and now I have my own family here, so I'm happy with life in Birmingham. I suppose I'm a little homebound and like to be around genuine people.

Don't you find it strange that such a recognizable person lives in a place that is not famous for the celebrities living there?

Scott Adkins: It's funny because more and more people are recognizing me, and when it just starts happening, you don't understand the reason, you think: “Do they have some kind of beef with me?” You forget that you are shown on TV, and therefore they recognize you. Of course, since the August release of The Expendables 2, people have started to recognize me much more often, but it’s still hard for locals to imagine why I’m still not in Hollywood.

I can imagine how strange it would be to see a Hollywood actor walking around Sutton.

Scott Adkins: It's worse when you're not alone and your companions say: “This is my friend, he's an actor.” And if those who were addressed did not recognize you, then your companions feel uneasy. You may be asked: “Am I supposed to recognize you?” And you have to somehow come to terms with this. But it is always nice to be recognized, because in this way people express their gratitude to you.

You first entered the mainstream with roles in the TV series EastEnders and Holby City. Soap opera fans, who believe that you haven't had a job since then, keep asking when will you return to the series?

Scott Adkins: It's a bit like the episode in Notting Hill when Julia Roberts says, “I'm an actress,” and the guy asks her how much she makes, “Yeah, about 20 million a movie.” I haven’t reached that level yet, but on the other hand, it can also make you feel like you’re out of place. I've done loads of martial arts films, worked with Jackie Chan and so on, which I'm proud of because I've always wanted to do those kinds of films, and then I got into EastEnders. I didn’t do very well there, and that was a long time ago. I thought I played disgustingly, but everyone was fine with my performance.

There is another side to this medal. Have you ever had problems with impudent big guys who know you from martial arts films and want to measure their strength with you?

Scott Adkins: Yes, there is such a problem, especially if a person has a couple of drinks and decides to punch you in the face with the words “this guy did stunts with Stallone, I’ll knock him out and become famous.” Something like that. That's why I try to get into such situations as little as possible. I don't go to places where I might run into such idiots.

We speak a day after boxer Curtis Woodhouse discovered the identity of someone trolling him on Twitter and came to his house to talk.

Scott Adkins: Pretty cool. To be honest, it makes me smile, although perhaps I should not treat this situation this way, but it is understandable, because there will always be someone who will sit in front of the keyboard and send insults at you. Twitter and Facebook are dangerous things because you can knock over a couple of drinks and before you know it, you've sent out a “tweet” that has gone viral around the world.

By the way, what projects do you currently have in development?

Scott Adkins: Just recently returned from filming Ninja 2 in Thailand, which is the sequel to Ninja, which I starred in in 2008 before I injured my knee, which forced me to abstain from acting for 18 months. martial arts classes. Next month I'm going to Canada to film. Last month, the new, fourth part of “Universal Soldier” (Day of Reckoning) was released on DVD and Blu-ray and rose to 6th place in the ratings. Before Christmas, he starred in the third part of “Green Street” (Underground). I've never made a British feature film before, the director James Nunn is very good, and I'm interested in how it turned out. The film is about fights between football hooligans, but the development of events is non-standard. A good film about the [football] “brothers”.

And you don't think that such films encourage violence?

Scott Adkins: It all depends on who you are. I grew up watching so-called “violent” films from a very young age, but I always regarded them as entertaining. The point is in the personality of each person - there is an age limit of up to 18 years, and until then you are not supposed to watch such films, and if you are 18 and you get inspiration from them to do stupid things, then it is not the films fault.

Today, films with Jason Statham and Daniel Craig are a huge box office success, and the way there is open for you. Have you ever imagined yourself as James Bond?

Scott Adkins: It would be great, I would love to do a Bond film. Not as James Bond, but as I imagine it, as the assistant to the main villain, something like that. I'm a big fan of the Bond films, especially the ones with Daniel Craig. Anything is possible, considering that many comic book heroes, like Batman and Superman, were played by British actors, and at the moment the most popular British actor is most likely Jason Statham, although he is cool, I’m getting closer to him at full speed.

And when they start taking you on leading roles in Hollywood films, will you still continue to live in Birmingham?

Scott Adkins: Gonna stay here. Why would I want to get rid of my accent, right? I owe him so much.

Seriously?

Scott Adkins: Not really.

Yes, thanks for the translation. Well, Adkins is generally shy, I’ll see that way. I hope Ninja 2 will be better than the first.

My pleasure. It’s rare to come across interviews in which they don’t ask a person for the 100500th time how you started doing BI, how you got into cinema, share your impressions of filming with someone there, ask about diet, training, favorite movie/actor, etc.

The site is local, the city is small, so it’s about how he started doing business, how he got into cinema, etc. and so on. everyone in Birmingham knows it and doesn't care. =)

I want to warn you right away: I didn’t come up with phrases like “experienced expert”. Please do not kick with your feet.

Thank you, Porsche did a similar two-foot strike at the 36th second in BKO with cables, if my memory serves me correctly (1:04:21).
