Samarth Payakarun – student of Yodtong Senanan

Samart Payakaroon is considered one of the greatest Muay Thai fighters. Ask anyone in Thailand who is the best fighter and the answer will be Samarth Payakarun. He is the Muhammad Ali, Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan of the art of Muay Thai. In Thailand he is considered almost a superhero. Even Lumpini's champion, Nuengpichit Sityodtong, considers him one of the greatest fighters of our century. He says Samarth is 10 times better than any Muay Thai fighter, including modern ones. Nuengpichit admitted that he feels like a rookie in comparison.

At the peak of his career in the 80s, he was simply magnificent and won championship belts in 4 different weight classes. Samarth, for fun, even fought in the boxing ring and became the WBC world champion. Then, he decided to make a successful career as an actor and pop singer. Surprisingly, he managed to win two awards in the Thai versions of the Oscars and Grammys.

What made him such a special fighter? He didn't have any knockout kicks. And even with your hands. He also didn't really like using his knees. But spectators and the press consider him the greatest Muay Thai fighter. Payakarun became special because of his sharpest vision, the sharpest in the history of sports. He was able to anticipate an opponent's strike and evade it while remaining half an inch out of range. Samarth moved with lightning speed and easily delivered the most difficult blows. Seeing it in action, it is safe to say that Muay Thai is one of the greatest martial arts in the entire world.

Samarth Payakaroon was and remains the most famous world champion he trained Yodtong Senanan. As you already know from previous publication, this great teacher trained the largest number of world champions in history Muay Thai. Here's what he said about Samart:

Undoubtedly, Samarth is the most talented Muay Thai fighter on Earth. My other world champions are all good, but Samarth was exceptional. But it was not always so. When he turned 11, he caused me a lot of problems. Samarth was lazy and cowardly. He didn't like being hit and was always afraid of getting hurt in the ring. Samarth was most likely the most cowardly of all my world champions. The weapon that changed his career dramatically was his pushing shot. Once I advised Samarth to use it for self-defense, opponents could no longer reach it. I made him practice this kick 200 times at the end of each training day. To this day, Samarth's pushing blow is regarded as unsurpassed. He also had the best reaction. Countless times opponents tried to kick him in the head from a distance of 1 meter, and Samarth easily avoided him. Only one person in a billion has such vision. He saw everything ahead. Another amazing quality was his speed. He could throw kicks, punches, knees and elbows at lightning speed. Samarth could easily knock down any fighter. He had an incredible ability to combine unique combinations and the most difficult techniques of Muay Thai. I am 72 years old (note: at the time of writing) and have been practicing Muay Thai for over 55 years. It’s a pity, but I believe that there will never be another fighter like Samarth. He was a real gift for the Thais.

Now former four-time world champion Samart Payakarun, whose real name is Samart Tiptarmai, is already 47 years old. He has a successful career as an actor and singer. Fans of Thai cinema may have noticed his appearance in the films “The Legend of Suryothai” (2001), “Furor” (2003), “Bodyguard” (2004), “Dynamite Warrior” (2006) and “Muay Thai Chaiya” , 2007), which some “smart guys” gave the name “Muay Thai: Fighter of Honor 2”. Despite his age, he occasionally conducts Muay Thai seminars, as well as sparring sessions with current world champions. Witnesses of sparring claims that even now he is technically superior to all existing champions.
