RZA and Common plan to film Black Samurai series

Rapper, actor, director and fan of martial arts films RZA will become the general producer of the series "Black Samurai", which will be based on a series of novels Mark Alden mid 70s.

According to news agency Variety, the main role in the show will go to another former rapper and musician, and now an actor common (“Now You See Me,” “Suicide Squad,” “John Wick 2”).

The plot of the books tells the story of Robert Sand, who was once saved by a Japanese sword master, after which he trained him for several years. But after Sand's teacher is killed by terrorists, the newly minted vigilante vows to fight organized crime by hook or by crook.

One of the producers of the future series Andre Gaines told Variety the following:

Robert Sand as black Jason Bourne. Black Samurai is one of the most exciting, modern and fun books I have ever read. Due to the popularity of upcoming films "John Wick 2" и "Suicide Squad", Common is an excellent choice for the lead role in our series. I believe he will become another great American actor.

At the moment, producers are looking for a director and screenwriter for Black Samurai. But Gaines, Common and RZA are confident that the series will go into production very soon. And there is no reason not to believe it, because RZA is famous for his special love for films about martial arts and samurai. It was he who produced the animated film "Afro Samurai" and dulogy "Iron Fist", in which he played the main role. He also directed the first film.

An attempt to adapt the series of novels was already made in 1977 in the form of a feature-length film. Then the main role in the film was played by the legendary Jim Kelly.
