Phillip Rea's 'Underdog Kids' Directorial Coming to DVD This Summer

Director's project Phillipa Rea "Underdog Kids", called by domestic localizers as "Losers", goes to DVD July 7, 2015.

The film tells the story of inner-city kids who are part of a karate team who are about to compete against the undefeated national youth team from Beverly Hills. in the upcoming tournament. They lose their coach a week before the match and are reluctantly trained by Jimmy "Lightning" Lee (Phillip Rhee), a former MMA champion who returns to his rough-and-tumble neighborhood.

In addition to Philip himself, the film will feature such martial arts stars as  June Chong, Dan Inosanto, Richard Norton, Simon Rea, Benny Urquidez, Don Wilson, Ron Yuan. Apparently, their roles will be limited to small cameos as themselves, but it will still be nice to see them on screen together.

The fights will be staged by Simon Rea and James Liu.

Why not. It is clear what kind of film it will be and for whom. But it’s great that Ri himself will be a mentor. A good image of a teacher, If only he continued making films and produced something like the Best of the Best.

      Lindolion,

I think it will just be a nice, cute movie, “for our own people.” Family and about sports. No worse than some "Karate Kid". Low budget only. Such films are also needed, maybe some decent change will emerge for combat cinematography. As I understand it, James Liu's son is starring in one of the roles.
