About the Hollywood remake of the 2011 Indonesian hit "Raid" they started talking back in 2014, connecting rumors with the name of the director Patrick Hughes (“The Expendables 3”, “The Hitman’s Bodyguard”), but the action movie never went into production. We returned to this topic in 2017 - then announced the that the film will be directed by Joe Carnahan (“Team A”), and the main role will go to the hero of niche action films Frank Grillo ("Trigger Day", "Black and Blue", "The Good, the Bad, the Cop"). But even then everything became quiet.

"Raid" returned to the headlines of specialized publications recently due to the fact that the project was “caught” by the streaming giant Netflix. According to foreign websites, the helm may again be Patrick Hughes, and names appeared among the producers Michael Bay and director of the original duology Gareth Evans.

Hughes is set to co-write the script with the writer James Beaufort, but the official synopsis is already known: the remake takes place in the Philadelphia ghettos, infested with drug addicts and drug dealers, where the elite emergency response team of the Drug Enforcement Administration climbs the stairs of the building where the local cartel and the elusive kingpin are holed up.

It is interesting that not only director Carnahan, but also actor Grillo remained out of work. Thus, the question can again be actively exploited: “Who can play the main roles?” With assumptions - you are welcome to comment.

Netflix's "The Raid" remake, Jackie Chan in the "Shang-Chi" sequel, the "Cobra Kai" star will become a superhero

It's no surprise that the commercially successful blockbuster from Marvel Studios Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has already received the green light to produce a sequel. The film grossed over $400 million worldwide on a budget of $150.

Martial arts practitioner, stuntman and leading man Sim Liu recognized as a successful superhero, and the Hawaiian blockbuster director Destin Daniel Cretton got the opportunity to direct the film again. Moreover, according to the producer and main thought leader of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Kevin Feige, Cretton is being seriously considered for the implementation of action projects for the streaming platform Disney +.

Destin himself has already commented on this news, saying that in the next film about the adventures of Shang-Chi, he wants to “drag” the legend of battle cinema Jackie Chan. According to Cretton, a role has already been prepared for Grandfather Chan and the director will do everything to get the famous actor in the sequel to the superhero blockbuster.

Let us recall that in the first film, notable roles were played by no less legendary Chinese actors: Tony Leung Chu Wai, Michelle Yeoh и Yuen Wa. So participation in the project Jackie Chan not that impossible.

The 20-year-old star of the TV series “Cobra Kai” Jolo Maridueño got the lead role in a superhero project "Blue Beetle" (Blue Beetle) for streaming channel HBO Max.

Jolo will play the role of Latin American Jamie Reyes, nicknamed Blue Beetle, a superhero based on a script by a Mexican writer. Gareth Dannett-Alcocera. The film was directed by Angel Manuel Soto (“Kings of Charm City”).

Synopsis: A working-class El Paso teenager accidentally discovers a blue scarab in a cemetery while walking with his friends. The guy's curiosity forced him to take the beetle home, where it came to life and grew attached to the base of Jamie's spine, giving the teenager not only extraterrestrial armor, but also supplying his body with double strength and speed.

It's interesting that according to the canons of comics DC, Blue Beetle is a master of hand-to-hand combat, and Jolo Maridueño I just became interested in martial arts after I started acting in "Cobra Kai". Well, perhaps the young man will be able to show what he learned in the superhero action movie.

All that remains to be added is that filming has already started and the release is scheduled for August 18, 2023. There is no more news about the project, but there is a concept for the Blue Beetle costume in the video in which it will be used in the action film.
