Review of the Thai action movie Vengeance Of An Assassin

Today I had the pleasure of attending the premiere of Panna Rittikrai's latest film. Vengeance Of An Assassin was filmed before the director's sad, sudden and untimely death. The usual formalities inherent in premieres faded into the background, since the most honored guest was not among those present. What was happening was more reminiscent of a memorial than an advertisement for a film, and rightly so. Emotions took over, and the words of one of the actors even brought me to tears. When he spoke about his old friend Panna, I understood almost nothing of what was said, but everything was very clear from his voice and facial expression. So the question is: can the film be considered a worthy last testament to Panna Rittikrai?

Despite the fact that Panna has plenty of great films, like many famous action films, sometimes "hack work" slips through, and some films are only half good. Going into the session, I wasn't really sure what to expect. I am quite familiar with his work, I have about 100 films in which he acted as an extra, played various roles, financed, choreographed fights and sat in the director's chair. After the disappointing Tom Yum Goong 2, I was a little apprehensive.

The trailer had some great moments, but also some terrible special effects that I hoped looked bad because they weren't polished. Unfortunately, my hopes were not met. The train in the final film looks just as bad as it did in the trailer, and it's very sad that a very decent film has such a flaw.

Without going too far into the plot, this is the classic story of a boy whose parents are murdered, and as he grows up he begins to develop the skills needed to exact bloody revenge. VERY bloody!

Most of Panna's films had elements of comedy, and although this one has them too, the overall atmosphere is more oppressive. The film is quite dark, there are a lot of deaths, and some are quite unpleasant. There were a lot of great tricks that were received with a bang by the audience, and moments in which you just wanted to say: “Oh! It must hurt!”

Review of the Thai action movie Vengeance Of An Assassin

While the film suffers from a weak script (this applies to almost every Thai film), the action component (mostly shootouts and stunts) is on the level and does not let you get bored. The first 30 minutes were good and I enjoyed it, but after the main character trains to become a killer, the writing starts to sag and the pacing slows down. I also didn't like the ending, which was due to plot holes that could use some fixing.

The film contains two scenes, filmed, as it seemed to me, in one take. They are not as long as in Tom Yum Goong, but they are quite long and very complex. These are the best moments of the film, very impressive.

Overall, Assassin's Revenge is only partially the best work of Panna and his stunt team. For me personally, this is not his best film, although the action is very good. If it weren't for the weak script, bad special effects in the train scene and a number of plot holes, the film could have been a masterpiece! It's a pity.

As the end credits rolled, a sudden sadness washed over me. I realized that I would never be able to go to another Panna film. His contract with Sahamongkol was ending and who knows what he could have achieved with his newfound freedom?! Unfortunately, we will never know about this.

If you like Panna's other films, you'll enjoy watching this one too. If you like great action, then the film is worth watching. Just don't expect a quality script from him.

The film itself turned out so-so. It seems like they tried to do the action, but it’s still not impressive. In general, watch it on rewind and forget.

There's no way you can register there... This site requires a lot to access torrents. And no matter how I fill out the fields, they don’t like something.

But now you're right. Moreover, if you believe a good site - hkcinemagic.com, then at 3.19 there is also Jude and the film is called Star Runner. Those. only 3 left:

    01.55 (something with Mark Haughton)
    04.18 (something with John Ladalski)
06.12 (something with Jeffrey Falcon most likely)

This is NOT the Book of Heroes, and Kurata is not in this frame (there is a younger Asian there + judging by the frame, the film is clearly from the second half of the 80s, or maybe even the 90s/91) Mneon reminds me more of Conan Lee

Most likely it's Vincent Zhao and Jude Poyer, movie "Fist power" (2000)! A 3.19 - Star Runner.

Well, sorry, I’m already old, my eyes are not the same. as compensation - purely speculation: 03.44 - Book of Heroes / Huan le long hu bang / A Book Of Heroes 1987, at least in that scene Yasuaki Kurata is definitely present.

“John Wick” is a cheerful action movie, although I didn’t see anything outstanding in it. The usual gangster showdowns, mostly with shooting. I would say at the level of Statham, some “Mechanic” or “Parker”. And then, “Mechanic” will be more interesting, there are interesting tactical techniques flashing, but here Reeves rushes ahead.
A special O_O for the plot of the film. The killer is not even taking revenge for his wife, but for his car and dog.

04.18 (something with John Ladalski) - the hairstyle of the Chinese man whose face Ladalski cleans indicates that the film is most likely from the seventies-early eighties and the time of action is modern (at the time of the film’s production), and from Ladalski’s filmography only Gam sau ji / The falls under these definitions IMHO Informer (1980) - anyone who has the opportunity can check it out.
06.12 (something with Jeffrey Falcon most likely) - he doesn’t seem to have many Chinese films - http://www.hkcinemagic.com/en/people.asp?id=439 - maybe it can be determined by exclusion?

OFTOP. I went to see “John Wick” today, it’s a pretty cheerful action movie, perhaps the best this year after “The Raid 2”! I was especially pleased that Bernhardt was not “leaked”, but on the contrary, given a prominent role with a lot of “action”, including hand-to-hand fights with Reeves! And further . It is advisable to watch the film in the original with subtitles (if possible), because there is a lot of Russian speech and swearing, it all sounds fun, but with dubbing it will not be the same!

It would be nice to post the full transcript separately later. In any case, I would be glad.

I will post the full transcript in my Adkins group (I posted a complete breakdown of another video from this author in the comments above, I think it will be interesting, because the videos contain frames from 100 films =). I'll post it here as soon as I post it. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who will be interested in this. :)

01.31 Rothrock where she played a Buddhist woman who came to protect a boy - someone's incarnation

Interested in the shot BEFORE Cynthia.

It turned out funny: I was looking for 01.31 in my collection, and came across (by chance) 01.18 and 06.09 - Angel on fire (Die xue rou qing) with Cynthia Khan in ch. roles. in the footage - Winston Ellis.
on 06.12 according to my Jeffrey Falcon. I don't remember the movie.

Oh thanks. It also seems that this is Jeffrey, but I can’t find anything about this fight with him.

Off-top. Hello everyone, I need help from site visitors. I'm watching this video right now:

I sorted out the overwhelming number of frames, but several unknowns remained (out of 165 frames, 17 remained unsolved). These are time periods that are still unknown to me.

First part: 01.18; 01.31; 01.37 and 01.55 (something with Mark Houghton)

PS Those who don’t know the names of the films, but know the actors in them... will also be useful. =)

In general, no one expected high-quality scripts. Unfortunately...

But anyway, with deep respect and RIP Panna.
