Verdict: Probably the worst of all Tony Jaa films so far. In essence, the simple plot of the first film with the search for a lost elephant was used a second time, artificially and unsuccessfully complicated, which led to plot holes and the appearance of funny moments that the authors did not intend as funny. Due to the terrible digitization and CGI, this much-hyped action film is far from realistic compared to Jaa's previous films. The choreography of the fights is good, but there is nothing in it that we haven’t seen before, or that Jaa hasn’t done before, only better. Jaa's long-awaited collaboration with the charming "Jija" Janine is not exactly disappointing, but her character is practically not developed, and they communicate with each other very rarely. Simply put, the Thai action movie "Tom Yum Goong 2" is just a pathetic excuse for using a 3D format that is completely unnecessary and only harms the genre. In addition, if the first film somehow helped to bring awareness to people about cases of abuse of animals, then this sequel, apparently, has only one goal - box office revenue.
A fellow blogger's opinion: "This film defies all logic."
The most crazy moments that I could remember:
SPOILER ALERT!
There is one sequence in the film in which Kham (Jaa) follows Mark (Vongkamlao) to a “secret” building where they can talk privately. They go quite a long way, go deeper into the building, close the doors and everything, and then, shortly after their conversation, two different groups rush in, as if everyone knows about their location. There is also a certain rating - LC (RZA), the main villain, marks his assassins with numbers (from 30 and above to 00). He kidnaps Kham, assigns him number 01 in the rankings, and then, soon after, plans to kill him. What the hell is the point then? The ending is so stupid that I don't even want to waste energy describing it. The funniest thing for me personally: when LC finds out that Kham is ruining his perfect terrorist plan, he goes to show him off and wants to kill him, but instead of taking a gun with him, he takes a translator with him just to before the fight, tell Kham how angry he is with him. Isn't this stupid?
Malaysian Marketing: “A real fighter, real action, according to the rules of Muay Thai!” - so says the slogan on a local poster, but it seems more like the exact opposite of what we have in stock. This just proves that the film's promoters are either ignorant or obscene about their work. Firstly, Jaa started his career as a stuntman, he was never a fighter. Secondly, the realism of the action in this film is much lower than the action of his previous films. And finally, I believe that the martial art that Tony Jaa uses in his films is closer to Muay Boran than to Muay Thai, although, in fairness, I note that since the time of the first Ong-Bak, Muay Boran has remained a curiosity.
In subtitles: “Remember, stay hungry, stay stupid” was translated as “Jadi lapar dan bodoh” (note: such phrases cannot be translated literally). Did their janitor do the translation?
Malaysian censorship: At the premiere, only one minor murder scene with a hint of eroticism was heavily cut.

Thanks for the link Ilya
Maybe it's time for Tony to turn to Luc Besson's scripts?! I think it will be interesting!
No.
Was it supposed to be released in Russian on December 5?
Who wants to look but can’t find it in the search. Write me and I’ll tell you how
I'm sorry, but the search returns only lenses, without any zoom, and even better results, only they ask for pennies
Everything is described in detail above. The main thing is to indicate the last week in the search settings.
please give me your search query or link, I can’t find it
I really enjoy watching all of Jaa's fights against Crump. Yes, it's not Ong Bak or TYAG1, but that's what I wanted, to avoid repetition as much as possible. And in TYAG2, despite the terrible quality of the screen, despite the 3D, CGI, voice acting of blows in some places, the action was a success. RZA and the finale...I was ready for something like this, so there is no disappointment.
As far as I can judge from the crappy quality of the screen, this is far from “Ong Bak” / “Tom Yum Gung”, but nevertheless, a good Thai action movie worth watching.
thank you, cheers!
Add to English or the Thai movie title the word zoom (Google search for the last week) and everything will be found :)
Where? I absolutely can’t find it (
Most likely it will be on DVD (entirely in Thai). OB3 came with English. subtitles in theaters. I was hoping that the OB3 DVD would have a theatrical version of the translation (with English subtitles), but they decided to cheat.
PS Not available on torrents yet. You can only watch it online. 100-odd minutes go by. The credits were cut.
I thought that they would later dub it into Thai.
PS So do you have it whole or in pieces? Otherwise I didn’t find it in Siam...
Crump - yes. Well, there is a film in Thai and English.
Haven’t you watched those videos (screens) that are in this topic? Crump is there, Jaa says something. Well, and RZA during the battle.
Do they really speak English?
So it is, so what? This doesn't spoil the impression at all. Here is a battle on fire, yes, the voice acting of the blows spoils the impression a little, but it’s only a few seconds. And after several viewings you don’t pay attention at all. At first, the sound of the shots in the video where Jaa versus Crump was not a fairy hurt my ears. But after a dozen views I stopped noticing.
Here, in general, they worked a lot on emotions during battles and even have some lines. I really don't understand what they say there :) I can't make it out.
The fight choreography has also undergone major changes.
Yeah. At first I actually thought that his arm was broken :)
I haven't watched the whole film - I can't compare. For battles too. You need normal quality to finally evaluate everything.
The fight on rails is the best fight in years so far. But there are several incomprehensible moments due to the quality of the screen; in general, it is too early to draw final conclusions - these are all first viewing impressions.
Kwai mentioned that the voice acting of the strikes is reminiscent of Star Wars. :)
This is the best wake-up call in the history of BI cinema.
I haven't watched the whole film - I can't compare. For battles too. You need normal quality to finally evaluate everything.
At the moment, the fight on rails is the best fight in recent years...
And the most frightening.
I watch Jaa vs. Crump fights over and over again. And this is despite the worst quality of the Camrip. The screen of the Furious Phoenix had approximately the same quality.
Oh how. Cooler than Joan's "snake"? ;)
You haven't seen anything, get ready!
What a waste of a scene with motorcycles. Well, with every new frame I am more and more convinced that the film can’t suck any more.

There are 7 “words” in your sentence, but I can’t even read it to the end =)
I understood what you meant.
There's something wrong with the sound of the blows in the film. This is really not solid.
You can clearly hear the stupid voice acting in this video.

Clear. I don’t consider this to be a rubber; on the contrary, it is clear that they will hit hard, in fact, as always.
The pad is not a manufacturer's mistake, but a protective pad for the leg. It’s simply impossible for such a reputable company to make such mistakes in promotional shots. It's my opinion.
What's wrong with this frame?
In the shot with Yanin there was an elbow pad, in this one there was a “nano-pad”.
And I'm TYAG2 :)

Or maybe it will be released on DVD in Malaysia in a month or a month and a half.

I meant Raid 2.
Well... If you compare it with the “Bangkok Knockout”, it’s still very, very cool! “Bangkok Knockout” made an indelible impression on me. Although there was no one comparable to Tony from the time of “Ong Bak”, the overall level and amount of maneuvers and tricks made me sit through the entire film with my pack down.
But Gija never impressed. She was given a rather complex and virtuosic technique, but you don’t feel any real power in her blows, when you believe that such a blow will sweep any man off his feet. Therefore, somehow neither “Chocolate” nor “Phoenix is Furious” became “must see” films for me.
And it seems that “their answer to Ong Baku, Iko and theirs is all Uwais” will surpass Tony in totality. If only “Hooligan” turned out to be at least as good as “Raid”. True, he still has to wait and wait...
At least until January.
https://www.youtube.com/user/SahamongkolfilmInt/videos?shelf_id=1&sort=dd&view=0 Look at a lot of interesting things here. We'll wait for the film. Of course, nothing is clear to me at some points, the editing is not clear... I don't know if they are whole or they were cut up like that for the video.
Sahamongkolfilm International led by Somsak Techaratanaprasert. :)
He once said that the first film with Dolph and Tom Yum Goong 2 are films from the Thai company “somlublablabla” (the name is too complicated, but you understand what I mean =), I don’t remember his exact words, but he clearly spoke about them doesn't want to.
No, no...Tony has lost the form that he had. And that’s why everything looks weak. I watched the fight with Crump in quality and in 3D. That’s it. I watched the old Tony a hundred times. Because the level is not the same .And the film is not the same. Where...no cables or computer graphics...For which I respected so much.Everywhere you can feel the weakness and lack of completion.Too many expectations. But Tony is no longer the same. And nothing will bring him back.Comparable to the level the phoenix is in rage and the Bankog attack. But not cooler, as they promised us. And the battles are some short ones, you don’t even have time to live in them.
Have you noticed that Tony never, from the moment it was released on Twitter and Facebook, both before the premiere and after it, he didn’t even mention the film? Although, as a leading actor, he had to promote it at full speed.
I have the impression that without 3D it will be impossible to watch. The fights are weaker even, it seems, than the third “Ong Bak”, but at the same time they were filmed specifically for 3D. At least it seems so to me. Well, there’s a contradiction: on the one hand, Tony will no longer surpass himself ten years ago, but on the other hand, it’s good that he’s experimenting, trying something new. Precisely because he won’t get far with tricks.
The above applies equally to directors and producers who have worked with Tony since then.
Something like that.
what the heck anyway (somehow)
The rest are on the channel.

I won’t speak for everyone: I want to. True, sooner or later I’ll wait for the whole film.
I found several excerpts from TYAG2. If you want, I can post it. Judge for yourself whether there is what you want to see in action films with BI or not.
Quality is so bad.
Guys, share the link to the special id. I'm looking around, I can't find it. Can you email me the link too? foasster@gmail.com
There will most likely be a gift for all of us for the New Year! Or at worst - Easter!
Well, last year I argued with Evilldollar and said that there would be a ug-film.
Holiness, oooh, where is my elephant....pregnant Yanina, who wouldn’t get spanked and get pregnant and do karate...and that’s what happened....
I was right!
Guys, does anyone know when we can watch Tom Yum Goong 2 in Russia?
Wow, I wanted to write about this too, but I forgot, damn it)))
I completely AGREE with the above expert opinion!
And in cinematic language I’ll just add about what’s missing - editing!
The cameraman captured a lot of things perfectly, BUT...!
The editor apparently didn’t consider it necessary to glue or paste something (that’s what I saw) for everything to work. Namely:
Big emotional plans!
When Donny sat at the gaming table at the beginning, I only saw one shot of his emotions with a drop of sweat dripping down. Where are his eyes? Where is the drop close-up? Where are the big faces of the bandits in this room, reacting to the whole situation? Where? Some will say that this is not important. How important it is!!!
A small thing, but a great move when Ken took off his slippers and prepared for a fight. And it was so funny. Where is the emphasis on this? It was possible to make one slipper fly off into the crowd or into the sitting boss. Why is it so difficult to do this?
Where is the irony over this hero and the concern for the hero Donnie in the situation.
A great moment in the finale where the car falls, and Andy turns out to have jumped out and is in fear on the concrete beam of the bridge! Almost pooped my pants! (I would definitely put it on...)
Where are his emotions?
The camera only takes a wide shot of him and Donnie... And Donnie's reaction to this matter is very weak. Very! Why... was it so difficult to do all this???
There are not enough little things, but they are oh so important!
In general, I will say that cinematographer Peter Pauw, in general, did not disappoint me and pleased Donny with his street equipment. It was very clear that in some places it was not a staged fight with strong blows, but some kind of street brawl, sometimes consisting of blows that essentially meant nothing.
Editor Cheng Ka Fai on soap!!!
Apparently he was fed up with everything in his career! Considering how unusually he put together the BLACK MASK and how simply, but watchably, it turned out GREAT, I have no other opinion.
Find out where he put the rest of the pieces (and I’m sure there were some), remount them, and then impale him so that others won’t do it in the future!
And what... especially since he has already glued together all the best things in his life. At least the example will remain.
And in terms of installation, I really liked GREAT MASTERS from the latest works! Of course, they drag it out to the point of impossibility, but everything is organically glued together in the fights.
No no no! I had exactly the same impressions, for example, from “The Return of Chen Zhen.” I even compared this case with “Fist of Fury” (not in Donnie’s favor) with something like this:
There are absolutely no emotions from the film. Well, the movie. Well, Chinese. Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury made me sad for days as a child. That was the effect. Even now it’s a little sad to rewatch.
As for the fights. Donny is one of the best movie fighters of our time, yes. Here he also worked as a director. The result was something phenomenally cool and equally unreal. No, not even, in general, because of the cables and computer graphics (probably), but the impression is no better. Every movement is phenomenally precisely choreographed, honed to perfection and completely dead. There is no sense of improvisation in the movements, which inevitably occurs in any fight. Even Bruce Lee's steps, honed to even greater perfection, do not create such a dead impression.
“Lack of intensity of passion and drama” (when analyzing the fighting game genre, this is meant) - this is when, I apologize, I don’t give a damn whether the hero Donnie wins the fight or not. When I look at him and don’t root for him. When the climax is blurred. When I get distracted by something extraneous or start paying attention to some purely technical details. You are about to take a breath into your lungs and are waiting for something, but there is nothing. About 20 years ago, Van Damme and others did it in the most banal way, but it worked: they got up from their knees pathetically, remembered what the teacher taught, etc... In this regard, the fight from “Bloody Sport” is simply a masterpiece. Even if he is naive, even if he is quite simple, even if he is too theatrical, even if it is completely retro, but he does not let go. And what music there! Drunken Master 2, Diner on Wheels, Armor of God, Drive, No Retreat, No Surrender 2 - these are examples where there is drama, sustained in different ways. Donnie has it in Flashpoint, he has it in Ip Man (I mean, first of all, fights with a bunch of Japanese on the tatami). She got lost in Special ID. Although no, there was some tension and dynamics in the group fight in the kitchen.
The second point: in cinema, a very limited number of people know how to play invulnerable heroes. Donnie Yen prefers to show all of his awesome coolness and invulnerability in almost every fight, this is his style, but this sometimes pushes me away. Something human is missing. I'll explain now. You know that Bruce Lee will win, but you still look at the screen in fascination, even if he doesn’t get a single blow, if he throws his enemies around like rags. This doesn't always happen with Donnie. even if his face is already covered in blood, it doesn’t matter. Some kind of repelling mechanism is triggered. Here you need to think, perhaps this is purely my problem.
Another important point: there is such a thing as acting singing, I think you all know what I mean, when they intone more than they sing, but they present it actorly, with acting, with a specific image and within the framework of a specific film or performance. Plus charisma. So it's the same with fighting games. He must also be an actor. You can sacrifice choreography, super-blows and jumps, but add purely acting cinematic material: dialogues, facial expressions, emotions, humor or tears, some discoveries, gags, so that the characters are on the edge when they are fighting against something, it would seem, irresistible, they put emotions into every blow. As Dacascos' hero said in Kickboxer 5: "a movement without a soul is nothing."
Well, if we’re talking purely about choreography, then I’ve just seen it all from Donny.

I couldn't stand it either. But... I watched the initial fight with Ken and the ending - the race scene and the fight between Donnie and Andy until the final credits.
I agree with the above opinion on some points.
And so I would like to ask a question - What is the intensity of passions and drama? What seems to be true in this film, but seems not so?
What could have been done much better? And what more did you want?
Here is one of those who looked in Russia who will answer - What is the problem?
True, I wrote a comment on the wrong topic, but oh well)
In general, I also could not resist and watched Special ID. I can’t say anything about the film yet, because jumping from Chinese speech to English subtitles is a complete mess. But as for the fighting game... well, of course they haven’t reached the level of Flashpoint. First of all, because we have all already seen this, Ian almost completely switched to mixed fighting, which is also very expected. I didn’t see any particular intensity of emotions or drama either, this type of male fighting game, a little fussy, flashing, Ian there aren’t enough stars from the sky here. Everything could have been done much better. MUCH. And there were all the conditions and all the possibilities. And most importantly, there were Ken Lo, Colin Chow, and Andy On, but they were essentially merged. Ken is involved somewhere around 40% and looks very stupid, Colin is completely lost (I’m finally sobbing), and Andy is revealed at about 70%. Let's just say who expected progress from Donny, IMHO, you won't see progress here. The remaining classic components are more or less present. But I’m unlikely to watch it many times, because I wanted more.
I also think that TYUG2 will have to be watched on rewind just because of the fighting. Well, it’s not possible for Asians to make a movie with an adequate plot, except in rare cases. This is sad, of course, but this is not news... Although the elephant in the plot is already a clinical distortion...
And it’s a pity that you fell for this damn 3D without having the proper experience - in the end the film will be not just a failure, but an epic... If only the battles were natural and inventive.. Fingers crossed, comrades!

From Kwai? Aren't you afraid of spoilers? ;)
Can anyone provide a translation?
Yes, Kwai has one huge spoiler.
Apparently I’m the only one who wasn’t surprised by this review :) I watched all of Jaa’s films only fights. That's all. Because, alas, there is nothing else there.
PS: Does anyone know if Ninja 2 is already available or if there isn't a DVD yet?

Kwai gave it 3/5 and that's not bad.
I spoiled it, as always :-D

Meanwhile, Tony does not stand still. Already with Dieselyoutube.com/watch?v=m5aUxvFstuk
Jackie and the Zodiac have already proven this by setting a record. In my opinion, he doesn’t want to do purely directing because such a film will gross less at the box office than a film of the same type, only with him in the leading role. He said that he wants to become the Asian Robert De Niro - let him dare, there is simply such a thing as inertia, in recent years the mature part of the audience has been watching Chan's NEW films out of inertia, but sooner or later it will end, especially if it falls on one action comedy a dozen dramas (if you apply for an Oscar, then they must have pitiful, painful, but colorful deaths of the main characters at the end).
Yes.

"Eagle's Way" was filmed in Thailand (is it like Asia?), there should be a fight with Smur, Brahim and someone else there.
Roughly speaking, today. The question is - what prevented him from taking up directing in the prime of his career, and not when he was already squeezed like lemon?
More than 15 years have passed since SEARCH.
But maybe he doesn't want to direct.
The great (I’m not afraid of this word) Amitabh Bachchan was once asked - Why don’t you yourself, showing an excellent performance, sit in the director’s chair?
To which he replied:
"A director must have a great eye for telling his story, being involved in EVERY aspect of his filmmaking."
Of course, he spoke at the root, but in principle he is right.
And I’ll add - Directing is a matter of desire.
No one is forcing him now to do what he did before, but what is stopping him from trying himself as a production director or simply a director, promoting new stars, sitting in a chair with a checkered blanket.
"Eagle's Way" was filmed in Thailand (is it like Asia?), there should be a fight with Smur, Brahim and someone else there.
Is this out of 10?

Hope dies last. Personally, I don't even hope that the film will be good. Everything is typical. But I think the battles there will be good. But again - skipping from fight to fight.
Although, if you consider that many people watch it for the fights, then things are not as scary as they describe them.
Regarding the above about Van Damme... it’s hard to say how we would live after all this. For example, I have many questions - Why didn’t he continue filming in Asia after DOUBLE TEAM and FUSE, why didn’t he start directing himself after SEEKING ADVENTURE, why didn’t he start working with someone significant like Jackie or Quentin. It’s difficult to say what a person had in his life, and in his head in general.
First Special ID received a negative review, and now TYG2 too. Now the last hope is for Ninja 2, it will certainly turn out very good, I am 100% sure of this
Well, about Van Damme, so as not to get up twice. I really liked it as a teenager. Just the eighties and nineties. Somehow I didn’t watch it in the 2000s. And in recent years I have watched the latest films several times and rewatched several old ones. From what I saw, I liked only the ones with Scott, and the third Unisol. I don't like the old Van Damme action movies anymore. I remember them saying “thank you for our happy childhood” and that’s all. My only regret is that Bolo didn’t show all his capabilities. I would tie Vanya with a bow. I would look at this. And in general, is there at least somewhere any recordings of how Bolo Young fights at full strength?!! I saw his tai chi performances, my God, a man in his sixties moves like a tiger on the hunt!
Yes, just cool fights. For some reason, people watch football or boxing, and even cosplay it in their yards millions of times. Although the plot in football and boxing has been repeated for centuries. I haven't watched any of Scott's or Tony's films because they are films with a plot. I’m generally silent about acting. I only liked Gringo for its style (but not for its plot or acting).
At the same time, Jackie’s last film, which I classify as a must-see (and I watched it several times in its entirety and even more times in pieces) is “Around the World in 80 Days” - but if you look at it like that, it’s the fights in “Around the World” “They don’t really represent anything special. There are almost none there at all.
So specifically from “TYUG2” I expect that the fights and stunts will be at least at the level of “OB3”, which I watched three times in advance from fight to fight. And from “Ninja 2” I expect that I will watch the film once, but at the same time I will watch the fights several times. And it’s better than “Ninja1,” which I watched once, but skipped through parts and never watched a single fight again.
I’ll just say that Jackie still had all kinds of fights, excluding the films of the last 5-6 years, when repetitions appeared.
Regarding respect for the fans, let us, the fans, respect his choice. It seems to me that for his age, he has already done a lot for cinema and to demand from him that he shakes his wand in his old age and gives out kicks left and right - well, it’s somehow unethical :)
Yes, there are other actors, Arnie and so on, who are also aged, but now they have again begun to actively act in action films, but this is their choice.
I largely agree with this, it’s just a pity to see how a good actor and a cult (at one time) action hero, who could still play his best roles (ZhKVD and The Expendables 2 showed that he is still capable of a lot... if he wants ) turns into a clown who is paid for all sorts of events such as the opening of a Shopping Center, Stadium, etc. All this is accompanied by licking his ass (and complete disrespect for the guest behind his back) and damage to his own health.
This is what’s upsetting, and not the fact that he started acting less. Those. The fact of human degradation is upsetting.
PS In this regard, I like what Dolph is doing now much more.
You say everything correctly, but... again the same but...
And who said that in the past?
For example, I (and not only me) will once again watch ARMOR OF GOD or DRUNKEN MASTER 2 and say for the hundredth time - Wow, how great! While getting more pleasure than from films from fight to fight Tony.
This applies to everything. Stunt scenes, camera work, actors' charisma, editing and music...
And I see absolutely no reason to put up with anything.
It's like going to the circus. Also classic movies with Jackie, Sammo, Bruce.
Do you agree?
Alex Kalashnikov and I sometimes argue. He says that Van Damme has outlived his usefulness, that he could do something cool and all that...
To which I answer - Why? He did his job very well! And left us a good movie! And now this dude is just enjoying life and doesn’t owe us anything. And he has the right to do this, because it is right.
Remember also Buster Keaton! He has an amazing movie that will never be outdated. It is always in the present and is still relevant.
As for expectations from films, everything here is generally very controversial.
Will at least one person clearly explain to me what he expects, say, from Scott Adkins’ new films?
Cool fights.
What kind?
All fights are the same in essence and specificity.
And it’s not about them at all, but about the dramaturgy of the film itself, the script, etc.
Why are we surprised when reading a review of this movie? Very strange...
It is clear that Jackie will be remembered and many will look up to him, but his achievements are already in the past, he is now unlikely to surprise anyone and we must come to terms with this. Jackie, with his vast experience, could have raised worthy successors, but he does not. I understand that charity is a thing worthy of respect, but the multi-million army of fans must also be respected. Even now, fanatics will be happy with any news, fans will be pleased with information about new films, and what remains for fans of that same young/matured Jackie, who at one time made, dare I say it, a breakthrough?..
PS I didn't compare Jackie and Tony.
Controversial point. They will always remain in the memory of the population of the entire globe. Such a person can dream and dream about Tony. And this is a given that you cannot argue with.
And the fact that Tom Yum Gung 2 is just another piece of garbage after ONG BAK 3 is a no brainer.
And Tony won’t have anything new. Everything was in his first 2 great films. We are all waiting and waiting. What are we waiting for?
Fight while standing on your head? Well, yes... this has never happened before. Original.
Jackie has all these chips wereYes, they floated away...
There is NO need to compare Jackie and Tony. These are two completely different directions. If you expect something fancy and unusual from TONY in fights (although he has already shown what he could), then with Jackie everything is simple. The same techniques and strikes, but what situations and positions!!! This is the trick!
And I’ll tell you this feature is much superior to what Tony Jaa has in the movies.
EvilDollaR hahaah
:)

I must say that this reviewer put:
Special ID 2/5
Man of Tai Chi 1/5
But ordinary users also give TYAG2 small ratings. The biggest one I've come across is 7/10.
As for ages, it is not the age itself that is important, but rather the period from the start of working in cinema to “you can watch it.” Jackie had managed to shoot a lot of cool stuff up to this point. And Tony's cat has cried...unfortunately.
Still, I hope that not everything is so bad with this film..
Noooo. I haven’t read this, I don’t believe it, noooo!!!!
Right.
On October 21, they complained to me that they couldn’t find Hooligans 3 in Russian, because the trailer said “Coming out October 21...in England” =D
where can I get the film? I've been waiting for it for so long, I don't care about reviews, I might like it.
Get the film on the day of the premiere? Oh well...
