Review of the film "Creed: The Rocky Legacy" (Creed) from ExpendablesPremiere

Hello everyone, Trevor here, I finally got to "Creed"And here, in fact, are my thoughts about the film. I honestly warn you, there will be minor spoilers, so read at your own peril and risk.

I’ll say right away that I expected to see another cheap attempt to cash in on the franchise in the form of a spin-off instead of filming "Rocky 7"But how greatly I was mistaken: not only is this not an attempt to make money on us with a famous “name”, this film has a right to exist and looks like a natural continuation of Rocky’s life with the progression of the character Stallone. There will be no action with everyone's favorite former boxer, moreover, the film is staged in such a way that you will not expect such scenes with him during the viewing.

As in my previous reviews, I will talk about the pros and cons in order. Let's start with the negative.

Some of you may not agree with me after watching it, but the film lacks... It lacks humor and lightness. The film is VERY serious. I’m still not entirely sure that Rocky should die of cancer during the course of the film, and although for myself I drew a parallel between Rocky and Adonis (that each of them has their own difficult fight), but this seriousness burst into the franchise quite sharply, in which is still more positive than in stories about life and death. I had exactly the same feelings about abrupt turns when Polly got that damn talking robot for her birthday. However, the scene where Adonis jogs down the street with the cyclists is very reminiscent of the style of the previous films, and as I watched it I wished there were more scenes like this.

Creed-

My second serious complaint about the film is about the leading actor. Let's be honest - Michael B. Jordan The actor is excellent and played his role diligently, with an A. The problem, however, is not that, but the way he felt the role, how he looked on the screen. The fact is that modern actors look not like stars on the screen, but like just actors doing their job. This is especially noticeable in the joint scenes between Stallone and Jordan, this is the difference in acting generations: Stallone radiates charisma, and Jordan just plays it well; when Sly is on screen, you never feel like an ACTOR, you see a CHARACTER. And Adonis himself as a character is too typical and mediocre compared to other characters in the series: Polly, Mickey, Glabber Lang, Ivan Drago and even Tommy Gunn, who was also Rocky’s student.

Actually, that’s where the cons end, let’s move on to the positives.

You will see two serious boxing scenes, both wonderful and shot with taste and style. In my opinion, they may be the best boxing scenes in film history - and that's what makes it stand out"Krid".

Creed-1

The film is respectful of the entire old franchise."Rocky", but without too much nostalgia. They could have made a cameo for Lundgren, Mister T, or again insert a couple of Mickey phrases, but did without all this. Why? Because, unlike, for example, the new money-making blockbuster "Star Trek" (where Leonard Nimoy, who previously played in Star Trek along with the characters Khan, Tribbles and Klingons, was dragged in for nostalgia), the producers and screenwriters "Creed" made a very realistic story that became a damn enjoyable film.

I give Creed a rating 9 of 10 is a fun journey from beginning to end of the film with a very familiar script, but at the same time introducing a new spirit. The main character could have been more well-rounded and endowed with more vibrant qualities... But thanks to excellent cinematography and a well-paced story, Creed comes close to greatness.

It’s been a long time since I watched the American TV series Operation Freedom, one of the directors was Corey Yuen. Now I can't find it anywhere. Have you met anyone?

I looked at this painting yesterday.
    What can I say.....
The opinion of a foreign reviewer could not be read, because he probably wrote while drunk, or after being stoned, impressed by the raising of one finger. Thank God that Comrade Uran warned:
"For those in the tank, this is a translation of the review, not my opinion."
The main problem isn't even the acting or the film's story. The problem lies with the cameraman and editor.
Yes Yes Yes. Now you will say - Well, ShadrinA has again gone to its steppe.
    Wait a second!
And it’s not a matter of crookedness this time. The operator is good. But he's just lazy!
Whoever watched it, remember one of the first scenes when Apollo’s wife comes to little Donnie. She tells him and then the guy unclenches his fist.
Where are the guy's close-ups? Where is his originally clenched fist? Where is the reaction of the woman who came out into the corridor? Where is the angry guy? Where? This needed to be shown at the beginning of the film so that we would start to worry about the hero. But apart from a brawl, we see nothing! Let's move on.
It's no secret that we are all waiting for the appearance of the hero Rocky Balboa. A guy comes to a restaurant and, looking at the photographs, he sees Rocky, who simply approaches him and begins a dialogue.
    What the hell is this???!!!
The appearance of Rocky is an important and exciting moment for the viewer. The guy looks at the photographs. Peers into their faces, into their emotions. At the same time, Rocky comes down the steps. The slow theme from the movie ROCKY plays. Anticipation. First they show their legs, then the guy hears footsteps and looks up from the photos. The figure of a former boxer is visible from behind the stairs....they show the guy again....he's waiting. Now his father's friend and boxing legend, Rocky, will appear before him. And so... Rocky lifts his signature hat and we see his eyes. Tired, trying to live according to the laws of the modern world. And then - dialogue.
What...was it difficult to do that? Or was the fabulous budget lacking here again? Everyone is raving about it.
Again.... the main character wants to train, proving something to someone. What and to whom? And most importantly - why? In all Rocky films, and indeed in old films in general, the heroes always had a compelling motive in the form of very serious circumstances, looking at which the viewer sympathized with him and worried about him. Why should I worry? Why did this guy get something into his head? Rave! The man had a job, but he quit it, suddenly deciding to take up boxing. As the hero said - I have been fighting all my life. So I would fight. What's the matter? I would find something to do in sports. Let him make ends meet, but he was a fan who eventually got lucky. I would believe it. But no!
    Come on.
With little effort, he begins to train. Going for a legendary run is something! Hmm... Especially the ending. I don’t understand that this is a show off in front of the residents of the block at the end of this scene? Or they were filming a rapper video and decided to cut it into the scene. Yes?
What kind of nonsense is behind the showdowns and ending up in jail? It feels like I see in front of me some kind of youngster who doesn’t know what he wants from life. Yes, he found out about Rocky's illness and that... he needs to go and beat everyone who comes to hand? Good hero! Causing absolute misunderstanding.
Well, okay, God be with it! Let's move on.
I said at the beginning about the cameraman and editor. Why are these two gavriks to blame?
Yes, because they simply didn’t bother with filming unnecessary shots, as well as cutting them correctly.
Which is very noticeable in the final battle. The fight is okay, but the presentation is disgusting. Well, they wanted to show the beginning without editing, no question... But then why film from God knows where? Where is the constant reaction to the fight? Rocky, the enemy side, the audience, the eyes of the heroes, hands, blood, sweat? Where??? Oh sorry... there was blood... of course, in 4 frames! How deliciously the editor chose the shots when the blood was washed off. Oh, of course, this is an important feature of the film - washing off the blood.... how would it be without it? God be with everyone else, the blood needs to be shown to the maximum. M...yes....
We can say a lot more, especially about the main...hmm...enemy, but what's the point?
It’s a pity that Sly, as a producer, didn’t finish watching the film, giving 1000% himself!!! I believed, looking at the screen, that Rocky would fall under the ring during the fight. His character was so convincing and realistic. There are even no words here! BRAVO!!! Fuck it...old school.

There are a lot of little things that simply aren’t there! And there should be. Necessarily. That's why the film turned out the way it did.

I'm starting to come to the conclusion that everyone films like this now. I watched THE HATEFUL EIGHT and it made me even sadder. FURY ROAD somehow smoothed out these impressions. True, not for long. But that's a completely different story.

      jaidev,

      And the movie-shit gives a medal “Oh..fly.”

I watched it yesterday. Not impressed... Not at all.
When Rocky 6 came out, I shed a tear, the nostalgia comes from my childhood. But this is false.
You don't believe anything on the screen. The assumptions in the film are monstrous if you just think about them. And this is not the same high as in The Expendables when the degree of idiocy causes a rush of endorphins.
This is not Rocky's legacy, this is oblivion.
Fights? What about fights? Well, without a soul. You believe more in 300 powerful blows to the jaw without consequences.
Sly... He's good. It's amazing when an older person changes for the better. It is correctly written in the review that he is not an actor in a film, but a character, a specific adequate personality in given conditions.
I don't recommend watching it. But I would still watch it, even if I had read a hundred recommendations not to watch it. In memory, as a tribute to...

      Elbrus Nukite,

To put it simply, how boring and burdensome is the film? Like Rocky 6 or worse?

        Author's gravatar

It's worse than a compliment. If you expect the film to be a continuation of Rocky’s story, then it’s 1 point out of 10. If we consider it as a separate story, it’s 4 out of 10.

For those in the tank, this is a translation of the review, not my opinion. Our Creed will be released later, but if anyone has watched it, please share your opinion!
