Review of the film Kill 'Em All

There are plenty of bad films, and the “mood” of the viewer contributes to the enjoyment of watching them. I must have been in the right frame of mind when I started Kill 'Em All, because this low-budget action movie turned out to be just what the doctor ordered. I knew it was bad, the script was iffy, and the acting was below average, but I'll be damned if I said I didn't enjoy its highlights and emphasis on combat. Of course, “Kill 'Em All” is not a film for everyone, since it is intended for fans of low-budget films, but I highly recommend watching it for connoisseurs of such films.

A group of the world's best assassins are kidnapped and placed in a dark room. These killers have no idea what is happening or why they were chosen, but a disembodied voice informs them that they are on “Death Row” and will have to fight each other to the death. The body count is growing every hour, while trained killers are desperately trying to develop a plan to escape and take revenge on the one who is behind all this madness.

Quite often it feels like Kill 'Em All is an adaptation of a video game. In fact, even one of the characters makes the remark that what happens is reminiscent of a video game. The first part of the film is made in the style of a “fighting game”: we have killers of different stripes who are forced to fight with each other in order to move on to the next round and get some prizes in the form of weapons. The film contains desperate attempts to build up some kind of tense atmosphere in the form of brief backstories regarding some of the most important characters, but due to the acting, sometimes strong, sometimes weak, all this in itself looks a little ridiculous. The filming style of director Raimund Huber is enough to maintain interest in this part, but it is the choreography and the charisma of the on-screen fights (despite their primary simplicity) that attract your attention.

Then comes a change for the better: the fighting mode is turned off and the beat 'em up mode is turned on. Like great games of yesteryear like Double Dragon, Kill 'Em All uses the principle that our remaining "heroes" run around a dilapidated warehouse, doing what they can to knock the wind out of countless bandit fighters. the path to the “bosses” and ultimately to the villain, played quite impressively by Gordon Liu. The fights, however, are top quality, and towards the end of the film the choreography designed by Tim Man is impressive to say the least. The plot is there just for show, but the fast pace comes to the rescue, and for action fans, the second half of the film is a real treat.

The film's limited budget occasionally mars the film (the gunfire looks cheap and the single explosion looks pretty damn primitive), and despite a relatively stellar cast, the film suffers from a weak script that makes it difficult for audiences to empathize with the main characters. However, all this is easily outweighed by the high-quality choreography and the unforgettable feeling of continuous fun that “Kill 'Em All” carries within itself. This is a bad film, but it is so good in its “badness” that it blew my mind while watching it. I highly recommend it to fans of B-movie action films!

Rating: 2,5/5

    This one from DVDREVIEWS:

"This is one quite riveting ride that you will truly enjoy – martial arts at its best... “Kill 'Em All” is smart and dynamic, and, when you think that you know the end of the film, it takes another turn . In some ways, it reminded me of “Game of Death,” Bruce Lee's final film. The last martial arts scene is priceless, one of the best that I have seen..."

It's in the remake. Plus there was a trick when a truck flies on top of Dan, and he, lying down, rolls to the side. How did Dan agree to it, or was there an understudy.
