Brawler movie review

Independent film "Brawler" (Brawler/Fighter), mixture "Warrior" и "Fight Club", combines elements of intense drama and a number of good MMA duels.

Brothers Fontaine, Charlie (Nathan Grubbs) and Bobby (Mark Senter), in the evenings they take part in MMA fights that take place on a boat in an illegal fight club run by local New Orleans mafiosi. While big brother Charlie balanced, Bobby constantly loses control. Despite the contrast in their characters, the brothers still respect each other and show mutual assistance. This is especially noticeable when Charlie gets seriously injured while trying to save his brother from being beaten by local bandits.

Two months later Charlie decides to quit fighting. He works in construction and is married to his childhood friend. Catboat (Pell James). Bobby finds himself in a hopeless situation and, as a consequence, Charlie decides to shelter him. Bye Charlie works, Bobby continues to fight in underground battles. However, one night will change their lives forever. When Charlie catches Bobby in bed with Catboat, the inextricable bonds of brotherhood are finally broken. Charlie decides that the only way to settle scores with his brother is to return back to the ring.

Director Chris Sivertson filmed an intense drama, in the center of which are two brothers eager to sort things out once and for all in battle. Although the theme of brothers competing with each other has appeared several times, not so long ago in the film "Warrior", in this case the emphasis is more on drama than combat. In truth, for an independent film, this approach was successful thanks to the acting. Nathan Grubbs (who came up with the plot together with Sivertson) and Mark Sentera. The brothers had similar contrasting personalities in "Warrior" (Joel Edgerton - balanced physics teacher, Tom Hardy - hot-tempered Marine). However, in the first half of the film there is a big difference - it turns out to be good Charlie, sacrificing himself to save his brother, while he betrays him by sleeping with his wife.

Despite the fact that the film relies heavily on drama, the on-screen fights are surprisingly good for an independent action film. Choreographer Garrick Palumbo developed worthy MMA fights. The viewer sees the fights in the ring “with his own eyes,” and to enhance the effect, in order to better show the technique of performing certain techniques, the camera is sometimes positioned above the fighters’ heads. In the final battle between the brothers, there is a feeling of cruelty, because they have only one thing on their minds - to literally kill each other, and all because of a terrible mistake made by one of them.

This is a really good independent MMA It's an action movie, and it's definitely worth renting.

On September 4, the film will be available to watch using video on demand (VOD), and on September 14, the "Turbo" company "Xlrator Media" will have a limited theatrical release in New Orleans and Los Angeles.
