Review of the film Bangkok Kungfu

Despite the title, the film Jutlerta Sippapaka “Bangkok Kung Fu” (Bangkok Kungfu) little fighting and philosophy. The fights, extremely rare and short, look like excerpts from cartoons or video games. The plot, vague and unoriginal, also has little to offer the viewer.

Although the film begins with a tragic backstory for the main characters - four boys are kidnapped, handcuffed and forced to beg on the streets until they are rescued by a master kung Fu and begins to teach - the plot subsequently becomes extremely incoherent.

At first it's a standard revenge story, with the now grown-up boys wanting to find their kidnappers and take revenge on them. But the theme of choosing between forgiveness and retribution, so inherent in the current split in Thai society, sent the plot in a completely different direction.

The story of the teacher's revenge is woven into it kung Fu and moves to the foreground, and the main characters are forced to search for a magical object that can save their mortally wounded friend. Meanwhile, we see a love triangle of three childhood friends with ridiculous events associated with the two main characters, causing the audience to giggle from time to time.

Following on from a stunning lead role in last year's hit romantic comedy "A Loser Lover" Arak Amornsupasiri continues to demonstrate his talents as a comedian. His comedic antics are almost the best moments of the film, such as a funny fight between a troupe of acrobats and villains, or the “dark” humor regarding his reunion with his mother.

But the same cannot be said about the other main characters. Mario Maurer unconvincingly played a guy with brain damage. Beginners Atigit Pringprom и Visava Tayanont struggling to break out of their boy-band image by playing tormented orphans hell-bent on revenge. Jarinyi Sirimongkolsakul as a girl adopted by a master kung Fu, got the image of a Thai teenager who mindlessly follows current fashion trends (she wants to sing in a popular reality show), rather than listening to herself and her inner voice. The plot, on top of everything else, is also unfair to her, since she does not use all her talents, but instead plays a typical “miserable damsel”.

Perhaps the company "Film R Us" cherished the hope that “Bangkok Kung Fu” will be a worthy response to the trilogy “Ong-Bak” и “Tom-Yum-Goong” from a competing studio “Sahamongkol”, but considering the pointless plot, weak acting and unimpressive fight choreography, such a comparison is clearly inappropriate here.

Rather, on the contrary - the book is too small, and the photos are too big. :D
