Review of the film 7aam Arivu (The Seventh Sense)

The director's latest adventure film Arunasalama Murugadossa "The Seventh Sense" (7aam Arivu / The Seventh Sense) is occasionally enjoyable, but not enough to consider it a complete success. I can say with satisfaction that the film with its ideas is very interesting, and the director is trying to present these ideas in a new way. However, in between the refreshing and exciting events "The Seventh Sense" stuffed with all sorts of useless nonsense that does not contribute to the advancement of the plot, and in some places even reveals secondary plot lines that never find their logical conclusion. Despite the attempt to introduce Tamil cinema to foreign audiences, Murugadoss so bogged down in these minor things that it becomes difficult to appreciate the specific nuances of the film.

One of the strengths "The Seventh Sense" is a beautifully shot, gorgeous prologue consisting of flashbacks. We are transported to 500 AD. to life Bodhidharma, an ancient Tamil Prince, thanks to whom, according to legend, Buddhism appeared in China and martial arts developed. This 20-minute piece is amazingly beautiful and heartfelt. Syria in the role of Bodhidharma strong and generous even when strangers in his new Chinese home treat him with caution. In this flashback we see the first big fight - one of the best I have seen in Indian cinema. It's relatively short, but it's fast and brutal, and it also has moments you wouldn't expect. Unfortunately, once this fight is over, we'll be spending a lot of time watching something we don't need in any way.

So, Syria appears before us in the image of a circus performer from a booth who has found temporary refuge in Chennai. He juggles and rides a unicycle and stuff like that. This lasts almost an hour, and in the end it turns out that there was absolutely no need for all this. We only see how complex relationships develop between Arvind, character Syria, and his partner Subhoy Srinavasan (Shruti Hassan). The relationship is complex, but the romantic intertwining in the plot does not have any purpose, and serves only as a platform for the film and melodrama. I have not yet seen a single Indian film, even a pure action film, that did not have melodrama, and if there is ever a need to get rid of this melodrama, then "The Seventh Sense" would be a shining example. Relationship Arvinda и Subhi cause a faint grin, but soon it becomes terribly boring. Needless to say, I didn't like this part of the film, and it's not the fault of the actors, it's the fault of the plot, which slowed down the development of the film.

In contrast to the not-so-happy couple, the film features several Chinese villains, led by a Vietnamese actor Johnny Tri Nguyen in the image Dong Li. India and China have always had tense relations, mainly due to territorial disputes as well as India's support for the Dalai Lama. IN “The Seventh Sense” these moments are used, and the Chinese villains seem to have stepped out of a caricature. I'm not against the exaggerated nature of the villains, but such things are typical of Indian cinema. The hint that the Chinese people are trying to conquer all of India is already a little overkill. It's not a matter of unsubstantiated allegations, or some mysterious terrorist group posing a threat, it's a matter of the government, and to me, that's a little dishonest on their part.

As for the advantages, then Nguyen as a villain after “Tom Yum Goong”, "Power Kids" и “Cradle 2 the Grave” proved to be positive. He has some good fights, but his character's evil essence is mostly conveyed through his eyes. It works and Nguyen in the role of Dong Li – one of the strongest points of the film. Nguyen in episodes with his participation he does not face any special resistance (with the exception of Suriya). Everyone who gets in his way turns into “whipping boys,” but this is not boring at all. Murugadoss came up with for Dong Li some interesting features, and they keep interest in the film.

Review of the film 7aam Arivu (The Seventh Sense)

One of the film's greatest strengths is the creative approach to the fights. As I already mentioned, the prologue features one of the best fights I have seen in Indian cinema. There are a few more fights, mostly involving Dong Li, making his way to Arvind through crowds of merchants who came to hand, and they are also good. The choreography was well developed Peter Hein, whose services are often used by Indians, but some battles look as if they were directly related to the process of their creation Nguyen, and this is very good. The film's most effective sequence features no fighting at all, but the action is breathtaking despite the near-perfect use of CGI. This happens at the end of the film - there are zombified/hypnotized Tamil citizens, flying cars, an overturned 18-wheeler truck and a mysterious female fighter who is proficient in kung Fu. Just wonderful.

As I mentioned above, the film's pacing and excessive verbosity feel haphazard. The most egregious example is at the end, where there is an attempt to fit the ending into the last 25 minutes, when it would not have hurt to remove all the unnecessary stuff from the beginning and lengthen the final episode. Then it would be really interesting. Perhaps I would have had a different opinion regarding the melodrama if it had been somehow successful, but this did not happen, there was no resolution until the final credits, so it only annoyed me.

"The Seventh Sense" is a good film with glimpses of brilliance. He was drowned in commercial elements that served him poorly. Will I watch it again? Of course, I liked a lot of things about it, but I really hoped to see something out of the ordinary. In this regard I am disappointed. However, I do not regret the time spent on the session. I witnessed some great fights, romantic themes and watched a film that surpassed all previous attempts by Tamil filmmakers. And if they get a better editor, I think we'll end up with something special.

Yes, I was disappointed myself. I only watched it because of Johnny Nguyen. But Indian militants are incorrigible. As always, impossible flights, uprooting trees and everything like that. It's a pity.

Well, this cartoon turned out to be complete shit. I don’t recommend it to anyone. The old anime looks just super in comparison with this.

Thanks, we've already seen it. The fans probably pissed their knees with happiness.
