Beverly Hills Cop 4: Funny Rebirth

Thirty years have passed since the last film in the series was released in theaters, since then the world has changed a lot, media consumption habits are no longer the same, and most entertainment content is consumed through streaming platforms. This is a limited window for profit compared to the many options that producers have had in the past to make their products successful. This has created an unbearable wave of pointless remakes and belated revivals that only seek to cash in on already depleted franchises in an attempt to invest in safe bets that don't always produce the expected results. It was the perfect scenario for Eddie Murphy, to finally get this sequel project he's been trying to do since the '90s off the ground.

This fourth film is a belated revival, true to its 80s/90s essence, with the wise decision not to adapt to today's standards, whatever the trends. Murphy returns to his iconic character in a story that revolves around a police corruption case that involves Foley's daughter as the lawyer for a young Mexican gangster framed for a murder he didn't commit.

Addition to the cast Taylor Paige As the daughter, Foley brings new elements to the series, showing the character in a way we haven't seen him before - as a father trying to mend his relationship with a daughter who hates him for his many years of absence from her life.

In addition to this main storyline, we also have Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who doubles as Murphy's partner and love interest. Taylor Paige. Eddie Murphy's former teammates from the original trilogy, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser и Bronson Pinchot, return to reprise their roles, strengthening the team to counter the threat posed by a superb villain Kevin Bacon.

Hollywood has been obsessed with bringing back our aging heroes lately, and for this reason, the film may lack the spark and energy of the original trilogy. However, I believe that he was able to offer something better than what John Landis gave us in 1994 with the third film, although it still fell short of being as memorable as the first two installments. There are plenty of good action moments here with real stunts rather than weak CGI, and the jokes and comedy work well, with the typical nostalgic references to its glorious past that are usually present in such revivals.

Beverly Hills Cop 4: Funny Rebirth

In an ideal world, this film would be waiting for you in your local cinema, but in this world, full of imperfections and increasingly reminiscent of an episode of “South Park”, you can enjoy “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley” on Netflix next to you.
