Details of the film The Lost Bladesman and Donnie Yen's new project

On June 30, 2010, after three months of work, filming was completed on a film directed by Alan Mak and Felix Chong entitled "The Lost Bladesman" (formerly Guan Yun Chang), which starred the actors Donnie Yen, Song Li, Zhang Wen, Alex Fong Chung Soon, Andy He, Chin Siu Ho, Wang Xue Bing, Shao Bing, et al.

Donnie Yen mentioned his uncertainty about the film: “Immediately when the producer approached me, I had doubts. I was not very familiar with Three Kingdoms, although I had acted in many historical films. It seemed to me that I would not be able to portray such a major historical character on the screen, and I was afraid that I might inadvertently denigrate a universal hero. So I agreed on one condition: I would only do it when Alan Mak and Felix Chong were directing. Because I have faith in their ability to handle historical films. Viewers are becoming more picky, and we have to invent something new.”

With his height not reaching his size nine foot (~2 m 74 cm) Guan Yu, Donnie Yen was forced to wear high platform shoes, which made him two inches (~5 cm) taller. Donny said: “In fact, in the film I am very tall. I am “high” in terms of character, aspirations, martial arts, honor...”

Song Li, who plays the role of concubine Liu Bei (Alex Fong), who falls in love with Guan Yu, admits: “My character is fictional, she is very extraordinary and very loyal. At first, I misunderstood Guan Yu, hated him, and even despised him. To save me, Guan Yu had to overcome all obstacles and fight six generals. My story is a bit like “Double castling”, and the ending is so unpredictable that even Guan Yun Chang could not imagine it, and I only learned about it recently.”

The director says that "The Lost Bladesman" This is just a fictional film, not a biographical film, it will be different [from historical events]: “Everyone has their own image of Gaung Yu, we just tried to show the audience the way we see him. In the film, viewers will see not only Guan Yu's divine abilities, but also his humanity. Leafing through the pages of history, it is safe to say that Guan Yu was the most powerful person in the Three Kingdoms era. Now the strongest - Donnie Yen, therefore, the role of Guan Yu belongs only to him and no one else, only he can handle it. We were making a film about a young Guan Yu, his beard hasn't grown to full length yet, so it's different from other works."

Donnie Yen, who was also responsible for staging the fights, said: “The battles were created taking into account the origin of the historical character. Guan Yu lived during the Warring States period, so I couldn't use my favorite modern MMA, but used body language as a starting point. To escape from Cao Cao's camp, Guan Yu had to fight his way, and this path is full of unexpected turns. But the ability to wield a crescent-shaped sword should not be equated with the ability to play the role of Guan Yu. Fighting was not a problem for me, rather, the question was how to understand and display his screen image to the audience.”

In his next project, a wu xia film directed by Peter Chan, Donnie Yen will cooperate with Takeshi Kaneshiro. Working on a new painting, inspired by “One-armed swordsman”, will begin in August this year. Donnie will play the role of a ruthless assassin who has committed a number of all sorts of vile crimes. Pursued by the authorities, he lives as a fugitive. However, the relationship between him and the policeman (constable) looking for him will soon grow to a level of admiration and respect for each other, and this will lead to Donnie Yen will start life with a “clean slate”.

Well, according to Donny, it turns out that in this historical film there should be a lot of battle scenes - boom, believe that it won’t let you down)))

The wuxia genre seems to imply a large number of flights ala Hero. And here the policeman and the assassin...according to the description, they are closer to the Point and the Stars, and there are practically no ropes there.

Plus, in the sentence about MMA...it seems that NOT is missing

      Thanks Pavel, I fixed it.
This is exactly what is written about wuxia in the original:

in a wu xia film by director Peter Chan

Maybe the film won’t be modern, but they’ll make something historical again, like TiU, for example? Let's see...
