Eoin Friel's The Dogs of War Movie Review

I had high hopes for "Dogs of War” (Hounds of War), as I am a huge fan of everyone involved in the project. However, the characters were so poorly developed that I didn't care what happened to them, and the action scenes were nothing special to remember. There are worse films, but with the level of talent involved in this project, my expectations were perhaps too high.

Plot

After a failed mission, only one of the mercenary group remains alive to avenge his brothers.

Review

New film Isaac Florentine usually attracts the interest of action movie fans, as his films can be relied upon for spectacular fight scenes and a decent amount of action.

I was looking forward to it"Dogs of War” thanks to an impressive cast including Frank Grillo, Robert Patrick, Ron Mitra, Mark Strange и Lee Charles.

Unfortunately, the film was a bit of a disappointment as the action was surprisingly weak and over-edited, so there was nothing really memorable.

Eoin Friel's The Dogs of War Movie Review

The actors coped with their roles, and Frank Grillo looked cool in the lead role, but his character disappears for a significant portion of the running time, so there is little emotional connection with him or the other characters. Robert Patrick, as always, is good as the villain, but the ending is flat: there's no big action scene, and everything just fades away. When the credits rolled, I asked, "Is that it?", which is a bit of a letdown overall.

The film had potential for something like "The Expendables” , where in the first half we get to know the characters before they are killed, which would have given the proceedings more emotional power.

If anything, the film could have been longer, with better action scenes and more character development, as the story isn't particularly gripping, leaving us feeling no interest in the outcome.

"Dogs of war” , at least it's beautifully shot, and Malta, as always, looks picturesque on screen. I've seen it in a few films recently, apparently they have good tax breaks.

All in all, "Hounds of War” was disappointing and a waste of talent. I felt like the film had potential for something better, but ultimately it wasn't anything special to remember and I don't plan on watching it again.
