Review of the film “Legacy of Lies” (2020) by Sergei Volkolak

After a series of very, very successful projects in a row in his career from many sides Scott Adkins (the duology “Collectors”, “Accident”, “British Psychopath”, “Ip Man 4”, and, with which many will disagree, “Triple Threat”) then again something incomprehensible follows. One could expect that his subsequent paintings would be even higher class, or at least at the same level. But "Legacy of Lies" these expectations are mercilessly dispelled.

Review of the film “Legacy of Lies” (2020) by Sergei Volkolak

This film is some kind of indistinct and crumpled picture, directed by someone unknown (director Ed Ball), and filmed, for some reason, in Ukraine. A traditionally clichéd plot, with the same traditionally clichéd twists, where everyone who is not too lazy needs some incriminating files. At the center of it all is an uninteresting protagonist with an uninteresting and not at all original backstory. Weak and undeveloped villains, flat secondary characters, boring storytelling, a strange, mostly yellow color scheme that is depressing. And only the daughter of the main character surprised me by the fact that she understands combat sports and betting, which is quite rare among girls of her age.

Not much action. Apparently, the task was to make a spy thriller. The action scenes were staged and shot not too bad. By the way, in the series of films about Jason Bourne, things are worse with this. But in “Heritage” there is no tension and the level of involvement when you want to root for the main character. Partially, this effect appears in the very first fight in a cage with a nameless fat-bass, and then, probably, only because Adkins’ hero is opposed to him, and “roots” for him out of inertia.

The movie turned out to be completely passable, and even worse than average. If Scott hadn’t been in it, I think no one would have watched it at all, but it could have done without his participation. Most likely about "Legacy of Lies" will not remember over time, just as they prefer not to remember such misunderstandings as "Incoming", so or "Abduction", although the latter has some good action scenes. The upcoming films with the participation of the Briton, which are preparing to be released, also do not inspire confidence, except perhaps "Capture" may turn out to be a pleasant exception.
