About the past and future of FII

It would probably be symbolic to write 22.02, but probably too blasphemous in the general context. Why 22? For fans of the topic who joined the Fight Films Info community after 2015, this information will probably be new, but I think that for experienced ones it would not hurt to refresh their memory. 22.02.2015/XNUMX/XNUMX EvilDollar passed away - a person who devoted a lot of his efforts to this project, and in whose memory this site exists to this day.

About the past Fight Films Info

Now many saw the author’s nickname and thought that some kind of badger had crawled out of its hole and was saying something. "Who are you come bye." But I ask you to spare a few minutes for your precious one. It just so happens that I’m not just a “mimicrocodile” and I think that I have a direct connection to the subject.

Contrary to the new fashion trend, it won't work out"the site never existed, it was invented by Lenin"distorted perception, I’ll tell you how it all began. You can’t do without the ins and outs. And it all started with watching the film “Ong Bak”, that’s exactly how. In the evening, over beer, three Alexanders watched a movie with Tony Ja. Two of these Alexanders were us, me And EvilDollar. At his house, by the way, they looked under his mother’s fat chebureks. For everyone the film began and ended, but not for me. I was stunned and "fanatical."

Then there was the VK group. A small community of Tony Jaa fans. It was there that I, having been nurturing this idea for a long time, tried to find like-minded people with the goal of creating a fan site for Jah. As often happens with us, I received only moral support, but still took it on.

  • From Tony Jaa fansite to martial arts films

And on November 11.11.2008, XNUMX, the first post appeared on the “Welcome!” website. Initially, it was assumed that anyone would send materials, and I would publish them. I was the only one willing. However, work has moved forward. I published posts, and traffic grew. Over time, the site began to bring in some money (Google advertising worked completely differently back then), and I decided to enhance this effect.

About the past and future of FII

I decided to expand the topic of the site for greater coverage (a postscript was added to the site about films with martial arts, as well as martial arts itself), and invest in its promotion. And this is exactly where Sasha (EvilDollar) appears.

Since at that time almost all sources of information were in English, translations into Russian were needed. Despite the fact that this topic was far from him, I persuaded Sasha to translate a couple of news items for the site, but it didn’t work out of simple enthusiasm. He had his own interests (he was interested in 3D modeling), and all these “mass fights” on the screen were child’s play. It became much easier to persuade him when I offered to pay for translating the articles. And things went well.

At first, I published everything under his name, but when a link exchange was added to Google advertising, I could already financially motivate Dollar (everyone called him that in life, it was the Evil prefix that appeared on the Internet) to become not just a translator, but a full-fledged one editor on the site. The work went according to plan. I withdrew money, paid him, paid for the maintenance of the site and even had some money left over for cigarettes. It seemed that everyone was happy and no one was offended.

Somewhere towards the end of 2009, the site began to sag significantly and was caught by “filters” from search engines. I concluded that this was due to the exchange and decided to withdraw it, which entailed a significant reduction in profits. And what dripped from advertising went to pay Sasha. I was already in the red. Then the advertising did not “reward his services”, the minus was even greater for me, and for some reason the site (it will become clear over time) sagged even more. Still hoping for a change in the situation, I did not return the exchange so as not to completely bury everything, Sasha did not like this idea. But we “worked” like this for almost a year.

When profits fell to zero and expenses increased, I decided to sell the site “while it was still worth something.” An acquaintance who understands this topic agreed to take it for himself. I explained the situation to Sasha and in the end I even split the $50 with him 50/300 (wow!). In essence, neither me nor him were happy with the situation, but I saw no other way out. It would seem that the history of the project is over.

However, literally a week later, the new owner of the site presented me with a complaint that almost all the publications had disappeared, and also, it turns out that they had been published in parallel on another site for a year, which was the reason for this drawdown. It was only possible to partially restore the posts, and moving to another domain (ong-bak.ru) did not help correct the situation. I just returned the money and completely gave up on it. Sasha and I were friends for a very long time, and I did not sacrifice the relationship because of this. He was simply already working on his own project, a separate one, his own project. And I was left behind.

  • Just an interesting comment on this site:
About the past and future of FII
Fate Martial Arts Info

From the above, it is clear that the project Martial Arts Information began its existence in parallel and for some period consisted 100% of “fansite” materials. Which, after a while, also affected it - having buried the “old site”, the new one found itself under the same filters, and the link exchange guaranteed the “AGS filter” almost forever. However, the site has formed its own audience, community, you. This kept him afloat for another 5 years.

Probably, the main core of the site’s audience was formed without knowing about its origins, and this is normal. But I believe that this is an important part of his story, without which, most likely, it would be different. However, the site lived its own life. Of which you are a part, who reads, who stayed.

22.02.2015 Sasha passed away. Several of our mutual friends asked me to restore their websites, which were hosted by him. Helped me gain access. Accordingly, this is how I “got” here. Reported his death.

I saw a live audience with whom together we decided not to close the site. This idea Sasha’s relatives also supported. Together we not only did not close the project, but also started to develop it. A year later, the project tripled, although he switched to a new domain because the old one was hopelessly banned by search engines.

And for the fact that you got involved and helped raise the project, I am most grateful. In particular, I am ready to bow at my feet for this Danila Chupakhin и Oleg Ravenside, who not only played a key role in the restoration, but after a while completely took over all the work on the content. Your work is invaluable, despite the fact that no one received a penny for it all the time, since the site, unfortunately, never turned into a plus.

Also, I will repeat nicknames\names from the list that I referred to above: Uran, strom, Pavel Belba, Dmitry Shadrin. You (if you are reading) also made a very important contribution at that time.

Thanks to Oleg and Danil, the “legendary editorial team,” the project lived and developed without my participation at all, almost until 2024. I will repeat “thank you” to you a hundred times over for this.

About the future Fight Films Info

Due to objective and insurmountable reasons, which only worsened over time, I completely “fell out of the team,” and everything rested on Danil and Oleg. Almost half of the content (articles, news, reviews) of the site from 2008 to the present day consists of their work. My participation in recent years has been limited only to paying for the server and domain. I didn’t even have the opportunity to fix the technical problems that were only accumulating.

The guys have been growing all this time, and have grown to their own separate project. This marked another turning point in fate Fight Films Info. I think the majority of the community knows what we're talking about. Now there are again almost 2 identical sites on the network, which will most likely lead to similar results. "But it is not exactly".

Although I do not approve, I do understand this decision. I can’t make any claims, even knowing that it’s highly likely that both sites will be destroyed in this way. “Rewrote” the VK community. I sincerely wish you success and development. You definitely deserve it. I hope no one has any offense.

And now I’ll just quote what I wrote back in 2015:

In memory of Alexander, the project will be maintained as long as I can do it.

Due to my busy schedule, I cannot guarantee readers frequent information updates and regular news. But I will try to do everything in my power to at least keep the site afloat.

I don’t intend to break my word. Now I have some time to correct technical issues. I tried to optimize the site as much as possible. I completely updated the design, making a new “skin” for it from scratch without any templates. There are objective results:

About the past and future of FII

I will continue to work in this direction as far as possible. There's a lot to shovel. I'll try to make it "ideal".

I can't guarantee regular content updates because I can't even guarantee my own day, but I'll try.

Even if lightning does not strike twice in the same place, but as in 2015, I will make an offer to interested people to join the project. If anyone can and wants to write about martial arts movies, let me know.

Alas, the opportunities to monetize the site are limited to almost zero. Therefore, as a reward I can only offer gratitude and support for your ideas. If an active author\s wants to accept donations, sell themed merch, or something like that, I don’t mind at all, and I don’t claim a penny. I will still remain outside of all this, as a warehouse manager.

That's probably all for now. Comments, complaints and suggestions are accepted in the comments.

I ask those who care to drink a glass of strong tea in memory of Alexander Nikolaevich Zelinsky, aka EvilDollar, albeit belatedly.

Take care of yourself and loved ones.

barsug, Hello. Glad I didn't give up. And thanks guys. Updated. How many years have passed? As a visitor since tony-jaa.ru, I think that’s what it was called.

Hello. It looks like you are the only one from that time.)) Join us, help raise the project. All the authors have gone to clone, it seems.

The new design is awesome! Previously, you could log in via social media, but now it’s not so convenient.

Thank you, I tried. The concept arose from the first “Results of the Year”, when I was making pictures for the nominations, but there wasn’t enough time, but now I’ve implemented it.
Authorization through social networks will be possible...later, but I cannot guarantee that it will be possible to log into the account previously created in this way (without restoring access). That authorization plugin has been abandoned by the developers for more than 3 years and is not compatible with modern versions of the engine, completely killing the ability to comment. I'll see what I can do about it.

Strange topic. If it’s clear with the first one - you wanted your pie, then what about the second case? If you don't claim money? Or is everything not so clear?))))

      Author's gravatar

There is no point in talking about “pies”, that’s in the past. And now - I think there is more than one factor there. Firstly, there were many technical problems that only I could fix, but I simply didn’t even have access to a PC for a very long time. Well, + considering that the guys refused to take back the domain so that this site would not die, this is probably a principled position. I will not answer for others.
As for “money,” there never was any here. Nonsense.
