The information about Hiroyuki Sanada is interesting, at least I have not heard about this fact of his biography. I believed that he became famous through the efforts of the same Chiba and his project Japan Action Club. What he was like, I have a vague idea, but from the scraps of information that I found, it was something like a master class for action actors, and only then Sanada was noticed and glorified by Makoto Wada. Still, you probably need to rely on your experience of participating in competitions, since, as far as I know, Donnie Yen, although he was on the national team, did not participate in any competitions. Although I could be wrong. On the other hand, Jet Li never fought in the ring, which he always openly stated, but it’s hard to call him a non-professional athlete. Well, with regard to Jackie Wu, I’m ready to admit that I got carried away. If we choose as a criterion for classifying an actor as a professional athlete, whether he earns money through his mastery of martial arts, then, yes, they fall into the category. That doesn't stop us from loving them.

Akshay Kumar, of course, is good, if only because I am his big fan :)) But things are a little strange with him. Everywhere he is positioned almost as the main star of the martial arts genre in India, but even in his early action films, he does not show anything special. Maybe, of course, I haven't been lucky yet. Even in the very recent "Brothers". In terms of demonstrating technology, Jamval is much cooler. Actually, I asked this question for a different purpose. In my understanding, professional athletes are those who have performed or are performing in the professional ring, such as, for example, if we talk about veterans - Kate Cook, Harry Daniels, Keith Vitali, Benny Urquidez, etc. The rest, with all due respect, are still, in my understanding, amateurs, with all due respect to Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Jackie Woo and the same Jamval. Otherwise, we can get to the point where we will call Sanada, Wesley Snipes and Sonny Chiba professional athletes

      Dmitriy,

But here the differences are interesting... The same Jackie Wu and Donnie Yen practiced Wushu professionally (they were members of the national team). Wu, for example, competed, but did not fight in the ring. Sonny Chiba was not a “professional” karateka and was always presented as an actor, but he competed as part of the Japanese team and won. Hiroyuki Sanada competed in exhibition fights, as did Jamval. They did not fight in the ring, but martial arts, apart from cinema, were their livelihood.

I don’t know what it’s like for you guys, but for some reason, whenever I see the name Yayan Ruhian, the rhyme “Yan Rude” immediately comes into play and I read the topic further with a smile =)

Is Vidyut Jamwal a professional athlete? I always thought of him as a kind of new generation Akshay Kumar.

      Dmitriy,

Akshaya Kumar of the new generation - is it good or bad? :) After all, before acting, Kumar was a martial arts teacher.

About Jamval, at least that’s what they write in open sources. Jamval has been practicing martial arts since childhood, he also taught and popularized kalaripayattu in different countries.
