Information has appeared about Ian's new projects, the nearest of which is another film adaptation about the adventures of the Chinese Indiana Jones named Wisely. This fictional character is very well known in China, thanks to countless books and comics based on the works. Ni Kuang - the creator of Wisely, as well as film adaptations, of which there were quite a few over the years of the character’s existence. Wiseley was played by such venerable Chinese actors as Chow Yun-fat (“The Seventh Curse” 1986), Sam Hui ("The Legend of Wiseley" 1987), Andy Lau (“Special Agent” 2002) and others.
In various works, Wiseley fights all sorts of evil spirits: from rebel mummies to aliens from outer space. Which opponent will Wiseley face? Donnie Yen - not yet known. In general, this is where all the details of the future project end. It remains to add that the producer of the tape was Raymond Wong ("Saving General Yang", "Ip Man 3"), and that the film is a priority in terms of the filming process.
The next project, which Donny has already agreed to, is a police thriller under the working title "City of Darkness" (City of Darkness), where Jena was signed up for the on-screen duet Andy Lau.
The thriller will tell about the everyday life of an independent commission against corruption in the police in the setting of Hong Kong in the 70s. The plot is suspiciously similar to the general synopsis of the film "Dragon City"which Ian announced a few years ago. But it seems like these are two different projects.
It is worth paying attention to the fact that the new “City of Darkness” has nothing in common with the 1999 action film of the same name, where Donnie Yen played one of the roles, sharing screen time with Li Luo, Chan Chi-Keung, Billy Chow, Kim Marie Penn и Ngai Singom, who played the main villain in the film.
Filming for City of Darkness is scheduled to begin immediately after the Wiseley film wraps. Also, nothing more is known about the project.
It should be mentioned that Donnie has several more films in his bins, for which nothing is clear yet. Firstly, the shooting of a Hollywood film is likely to be postponed again "Noodle maker", where Ian was supposed to star alongside Michelle Yeoh. Secondly, it is not yet known whether Ian will play in fourth film about the legendary master Ip Mane, as well as what responsibilities he will take on in the project "Hot Spot 2". The project announced in 2013 is in a “hanging” state. "Master", where Ian had to share screen time with Nicholas Tseand The second part failed Chinese blockbuster "Ice Man".
