Independent action films: Meza, The Real Target and Kamikaze

More and more often we see on the Internet so-called “showreels” of young martial artists, trickers, athletes and stuntmen who express themselves creatively in this way, and, to be honest, sometimes earn their living. However, not many of them create their own films.

Fortunately, there are more and more independent fan projects year after year, and perhaps a disappointed modern action movie fan of this genre should turn their attention to them.

For example, a representative of the Canadian stunt team Team 2X James Mark has enough film experience to direct his own. James worked as a stuntman in such TV series as "Nikita", "Secret connections", "Fallen Sky"and also in films "Mummy. Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" (2008) "Scott Pilgrim vs. Everyone" (2010) and "Pacific Rim" (2013)

Together with brother Chris Mark, who also worked as a stuntman in films "In the Vise" (2015) "Warcraft" (2016) and "Suicide Squad" (2016), James planned and implemented his own project over a year ago called Meza. In terms of genre, the film appears to be a sci-fi hand-to-hand action movie.

The Mark Brothers' film follows a high school student who gains superhuman powers and begins to learn more about his mysterious and dark past.

And perhaps we would never have seen this film if, as ScreenDaily reports, a certain Raven Banner would not have acquired the rights to sell and broadcast the film worldwide by entering into a deal with Byron Kent Wong of Bay Films/ZERO11ZERO.

The Mark Brothers' film has already been presented at the American Film Market, held on November 5. There is no information yet about the film's distribution. Only poster available.

By the way, we are already waiting for two Canadian independent films with martial arts: "French Dragon" и "Beyond redemption" Brian Ho, who is also a member of the team Team 2X.

Another stuntman, martial artist and actor, only this time from the UK - David Cheung (“Hooligans 3”, “Mordecai”), is also preparing his own full-length project called "The Real Goal" (The Real Target).

Real Target is a hand-to-hand combat spy-comedy that follows a kung fu-skilled spy couple forced to save the world from weapons of mass destruction. The main characters and their team must protect the world from a villain and a deadly virus, as well as free the global financial system from villainous control.

David Chung Joined by Screenwriter and Actress Yolanda Lainez, actor and stuntman Gene Lang ("47 Ronin"), Logan Wong (“Super Bob”) and other actors. In addition, the film features a real Wing Chun instructor - Master Wong, which you can see on one of the posters of the future film. By the way, Master Wong worked as a fight choreographer in many of Chung's short films.

The crowdfunding project was launched recently. And, I must say, so far the project is not being supported very intensively. However, if you are interested in the film “The Real Goal”, you can help the guys raise the required amount, by supporting the company on resource IndieGoGo.

Here's a little preview of the future film.

Let's finish the selection with another British independent project, at the helm of which are stuntmen and trickers. Action movie called "Kamikaze" (Kamikaze) has finally decided on a release date.

"Kamikaze" is a long-term film (the project started in 2014) martial artist, stuntman and actor Marcus Shakescheff (“Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”), who directed, wrote and produced the action film.

Synopsis: Evan Reed is a disillusioned former MI6 agent turned recruiter. One day, Evan is hired to steal files containing incriminating evidence linking the Prime Minister to illegal arms dealers. Evan realizes that he has gotten himself into a dangerous business, but everything becomes much more complicated when the pregnant girlfriend of a former agent is kidnapped. And now Evan must go through secret service agents, thugs and a small mercenary army to bring back his beloved.

In addition to Shaksheff, the acting ensemble includes: Lawrence Patrick ("British Superman") Lee Bain ("Robert the Doll") Tony Benham ("Never Be Alone") Aaron Gassor (“Aggressors”, Ginger Ninja Trickster) and others.

The film was already shown in Wales in January 2015. However, now the distribution company Indian Pictures planning a limited US release set to begin 13 декабря 2016 года.

The film has a trailer, which we invite you to watch.

In general, in 2017, it seems to us that there will be complete order with independent, author-made and fan-made action films. The main thing is that the projects reach the viewer.

Thank you that at least in “Kamikaze” there are no model-looking female fighters, this is already a huge plus for the film.
