We often decide whether to watch a movie or not based on the reviews of people who have already seen it. However, today, using an illustrative example, we will once again be convinced that this should not always serve as a selection criterion. But everything has its turn; first, its creators will talk about the film.
Trailer for the action movie “Prepare to Die”
Have you seen him? Yes it Lorenzo Lamas. Star of "tube" action films of the 90s. There was a time when he flashed on screens so often that he became recognizable to almost everyone who had a TV and a VCR (this is such a magical box from the past). It probably won’t be a mistake to say that the vast majority remember him for his role in the TV series “Renegade,” and connoisseurs of action cinema have it in their archives separate shelf with Lamas. And not in vain - this movie fighter is no stranger, he has been involved in karate and taekwondo for a long time... and even has black belts. In short, it's time to go into nostalgia mode:
Change the mode back to normal. It might seem that Lamas he left cinema long ago and is resting on his laurels, but this, to put it mildly, is not so - if you look at his filmography - his work is in full swing to this day, and was interrupted only by short “smoke breaks”, which were later compensated for by several projects a year (for 2015- 16 he appeared in 11 film products!). But, as you understand, these are far from blockbusters. Second- or third-rate roles in low-budget films are a niche for the 66-year-old actor. Actually, the product being reviewed today probably hasn't run far.
Prepare to die
We're talking about hand-to-hand action."Prepare to Die” Rented on Tubi (American streaming platform), from the director Jose Montesinos, which the old-timers of our site are familiar with from the project "Unlucky Stars".
The key role belongs to Ryan Padilla (Fault). He played a young man whose family was killed by a corrupt landowner (Lorenzo Lamas) when they refused to comply with his conditions. Gathering his will into a fist, the main character, according to the classics, devotes himself entirely to martial arts for the sake of revenge.
The caste also includes, among others: Craig NG (Big Trouble in Little China) Zhang Wang, Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill), and Quinton "Rampage"” Jackson.
But let's get back to where we started. Mixed reviews. Here are impressions of the film left by IMDB users! As the saying goes: "I'll just leave it here":
10 out of 10 - Dark Horse 2023: Movie of the Year
Prepare to Die (2023) is an absolute masterpiece that transcends the boundaries of cinematic excellence. From the gripping plot to the outstanding acting, this film is a tour de force that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I watched it.
The screenplay is a work of genius, seamlessly weaving together elements of tension, drama and twists that keep you guessing until the very end.
The character development is impeccable, making each character relatable and genuinely engaging. The cinematography is breathtaking, with every frame carefully crafted to enhance the overall visual experience. The attention to detail in the set and costume choices adds a layer of authenticity, immersing the viewer in the world of the film. The acting is incomparable. Each actor embodies their character with such depth and emotion that it is impossible not to become emotionally invested in their fate.

1 out of 10 - DON'T WATCH
The acting was diabolical to say the least, as every "actor" in this film was terrible. I couldn't watch the whole movie, it's really BAD!! I would like to rate it lower, but 1 star is the limit!
I don't know who wrote and directed it and then thought we have an amazing movie, guys, let's put it out. The plot is completely pointless.
I really wonder if these "actors" got paid if the movie made any money.
I assure you, if anyone wants to watch this, PLEASE DO NOT WATCH!!! And now I don't have words to describe this movie, so I'm just filling in the words to get the required amount of text!

10 out of 10. A fun homage to action movies from the 80s and 90s
If you're a fan of fun, low-budget films like "Road houses", you'll like it.
It has a diverse cast, cool locations and a return to the genre with cool Lorenzo Lamas playing the villain this time. Add to this the unconventional Michael Madsen, the stylish Rampage Jackson, and you're in for a great time!
All the key actors are amazing in their roles and give damn amazing performances. For an Asylum/Tubi movie, it's damn good.
Fight scenes may not be as intense as in "Barrio Brawler", which was the last action film Asylum released, but they are still well-made for the budget and are fun to watch.
Don't let the haters discourage you from watching!

1 out of 10. This movie made me realize I need to stay away from Tubi forever.
I can't believe this horribly constructed plot where a kid goes to Asia to become a martial arts expert? It was straight out of Batman and made me realize how pointless it was in Batman, especially on a shoestring budget.
The main character, played by Ryan Padilla, was completely unbelievable and disgusting. It's incredible that Rampage Jackson allowed this film to enter his filmography to ruin his reputation.
This movie isn't even worth playing in the background while you do laundry, it's a waste of time. After watching this movie, I realized that I need to stay away from movies on Tubi for the rest of my life. I highly recommend avoiding not only this movie, but Tubi in general. Their casting seems to be predominantly of obscure actors with very limited budgets.
