Maria Tran received an award for "Dragon Fist" + new short film from Maria Police Story: Girl Force

Martial artist and actress from Australia Maria Tran, as well as her husband, actor and fight choreographer Hungg Lee, became prize-winners of two events related to action cinema: Action On Film Fest and MartialCon.

The couple, who are also a creative duo, presented at the film festival Action On Film Fest and the convention MartialCon California has its own unfinished construction "Dragon Fist" - a low-budget hand-to-hand action film that was released in Maria's homeland back in 2014, but never saw release for the rest of the world. In the summer of this year, Maria together with the actors and director of the film Anthony Sito demonstrated their film in Hong Kong, receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences. And now it’s the turn of the Western festival premiere

American visitors to the festival and convention also liked “Fist of the Dragon”; critics noted the good choreography of the fights, and Maria Tran herself took the prize in the “Action by a Female Performer” category, beating Juju Chan, who played the main role in “Fist”, as well as the “action queen” herself Cynthia Rothrock, which was nominated for this nomination for the film "Battle Baby". In addition, Tran was recognized as a rising action star in the female category, giving her an award for this too. True, it’s worth saying that this is her second award with this wording - the first was for a short film Hit Girls in 2013 year.

For Maria, the success of “Dragon Fist” is a real breakthrough, which attracted the attention to her career as an action actress not only among fans of the action film genre, but also Jackie Chan, who invited the Australian actress to play a small role in the upcoming sci-fi action film "Bleeding Steel". For her husband Trana Lee - this is also a great help, because Lee was involved in staging the action in the film, paying special attention to the MMA fighter Josh Thompson, who also starred in Fist of the Dragon. According to the filmmakers, Josh could not adapt to the staged fight for a long time and Hungg spent a really long time training with him.

The lead actress, Juju Chan, spoke a little about when mere mortals will see the film:

This is a real explosive project that united people with passion. And it’s great that they took on such a complex project with an ultra-low budget. "Dragon Fist" is a cool experience and it awaits you at Netflix very soon! This is a movie Roger Corman for directing Anthony Sito.

It turns out that the famous cable channel Netflix has undertaken to distribute the film in the United States, which means that “The Fist” will appear on TV screens as a TV movie. Now we just have to wait for the official TV premiere dates.

Previously, Maria was known mainly for her short films, thanks to which she earned herself some fame on the Internet. Hungg Li may be familiar to visitors to our site for his main negative role in the Vietnamese action film "Tracers", where Lee shared screen time with Truong Ngoc An, Thien Nguyen and the same Maria Tran.

Let's remember the trailer for "Dragon Fist"

Well, while Maria and the “Dragon Fist” film crew were reaping the fruits of victory at the film festival and convention, apparently another short film was shot by itself. This time the comedy story is called "Police Story: Girls Squad" (Police Story: Girl Force).

Together with Maria they took part in the short film Sharon Jean (Lady Bloodfight) Charlie Leung, Jack Ngu, Craig Anderson and others.

We present the film to your attention. You should be especially pleased with the credits, which are made with a twist on old Jackie Chan films and a Jackie Chan song.
