Short films: FLUSH, Wake Up, Anger Management, Tatakai, Rescue Before Dusk and Kid Fury

While our website is finding out who was the best in 2017 in the field of martial arts, we would like to offer you several short films on the topic of “martial arts”. In addition to the fact that we try to follow independent filmmakers in “our” genre, this selection may encourage you to nominate a candidate for the title "Best Martial Arts Short Film 2017". In general, we are really looking forward to your candidates in all nominations!

FLUSH

The first film in our selection belongs to an independent creative association Team Red Pro and the director Joseph Le, who also works as a television stuntman.

The film has a title FLUSH and the genre is a comedy with elements of hand-to-hand combat. The short film will focus on the story of an undercover cop who is thrown into trouble by his restless partner. Interestingly, the film takes place in a toilet.

Besides Joseph Le, who played the main role in the film, took part in the short film Leroy Nguyen и Alex Au. FLUSH participated in the film convention program Urban Action Showcase and became a prize-winner. Whether the short film is worthy of this victory, we invite you to decide for yourself by watching the film.

Wake Up

The following short film is presented by the creative association BrilliantAction. The film is called Wake Up (“Wake Up,” “Awake”) and the project is directed by a stuntman and stunt coordinator Kevin Baril, who worked on projects such as "Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance" (2015) and "Chemist" (2016)

The main roles were played by: teacher of the MUSA martial arts academy, master Davis Chong (“Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance”) and himself Kevin Barid. Interestingly, Chong already played the role of a dojo master in last year's independent film "Die Fighting".

We offer a short film for viewing.

Anger Management

The actor presented a very short comedy film to the audience R. Marcus Taylor (Mr. McGetty's Pay, Luke Cage series), who also wrote and directed the short film Anger Management.

The main roles in the film were played by Taylor himself and Angela Lynn Hollis ("When the Dragons Awaken") Stuntmen on hand Malachi Mutakabbir ("Battle Boy") Raul Colon (“Aztec Warrior”) and others.

It's good that while we're waiting for the action comedy "Mr. McGetty's Pay", set for release in 2018, R. Marcus Taylor delights us with a short film.

tatakai

It's been a while since there have been short films on the theme of karate. The last ones, it seems, were Osu и Osu 2. Well, the regiment, as they say, has arrived.

Meet the film about the confrontation between two karatekas called Tatakai (The Battle), where they came together in a life-and-death battle Christopher Llorca и Juan Bofill. The latter, being an expert in stunt work and directing hand-to-hand action (Iron Man 1-3, A Gentleman, Noah), independently staged and directed the film.

Like FLUSH, Juan Bofill's "Battle" was an Urban Action Showcase winner.

Rescue Before Dusk

The next short film came to us from Indonesia, where young filmmakers, apparently wanting to someday become as famous as their fellow countrymen Iko Uwais, Joe Taslim, Yayan Ruhian и Chechep Arikh Rahman, made their own film called "Salvation Before Sunset" (Rescue Before Dusk).

Film directed and written by Samuel Delitance Lee will tell about a valiant young man who must save his beloved girl by going through crowds of malicious hooligans.

Starring: Peps Go, Xian Wen, Edward Guo and others.

Rescue Before Dusk collected many prizes at various short film festivals not only in Indonesia, but also in Europe. So, you are welcome, as they say, to the screen.

Kid Fury

We would like to complete the selection of short films with the director’s project Gino Cana, which is known mainly for full-length films, such as: "Fist to fist" (2011) and "Fist to Fist 2: Weapon of Choice" (2014). The film has a non-trivial title Kid Fury.

This 15-minute film is about a guy who must return a certain magic box after passing the test in a battle with several fighters of different styles (jiu jitsu, hapkido, kickboxing, kung fu).

The main role in the film was played by the young Timothy Ma, and he was kept company by: Nick Mac, Patrick Lee, Jason Nguyen, Ashley Jow, Dave Iyamaas well as himself Gino Kahn.

If this film has interested viewers, its creators promised to film a second part. In the meantime, you can watch the first one.

The video has been removed from the video hosting site

I liked “Rescue Before Dusk” the most, even though the hero didn’t come out as big, but I liked the last fight, it was shot perfectly, he beat the main one coolly.

"FLUSH" - great! Action comedy (albeit short) in the best traditions.
“Wake Up” has some kind of plot and meaning, although I didn’t understand it well. Not a bad, although sometimes ostentatious, fight.
“Anger Management” is a so-so fight, but when I understood the meaning, I laughed. And the fight, by the way, fully corresponds to the meaning. It won't be one of the best, but I didn't regret watching it.
"Tatakai" - no plot. It’s just that two karatekas came together from two sides in a clearing, and then one remained, the second, perhaps, died. The fight is very oak. And after that, someone else will ask me why I don’t like karate.
“Rescue Before Dusk” - young people fight well, but they are bad at filming it. Here is the camera, here is the sleekness after the first fights (not dirty, no bruises, not tired, and so on), and attacks in turn. There are still some flaws.
“Kid Fury” - filmed and edited more professionally than the previous one, but something is not great. It was shot as intended, but I didn’t like the film itself. Perhaps so.

Delete previous comment. I accidentally sent it unfinished, and did not find any way to delete it myself. Even, by the way, for some reason the edit button did not appear, although I tried to refresh the page a couple of times.
Ps But this comment can be edited in the first five minutes after sending and can be deleted immediately.

      Wave,
It seems to me that the problem with the last two videos is that the fighters there are very sluggish, there is no energy in their movements, so the fights look make-believe.
In Tatakai the actors at least put in the punches.

Well, not much worse than Uwais and company.
