Book Complete Krav Maga: Preliminary Instruction

BOOK Darren Levine и John Whitman "Complete Krav Maga" This is a training manual for those who decide to study Krav Maga.

Darren Levine teaches Krav Maga в FBI, in elite anti-terrorist units, in special forces units, etc. He also took a course in Krav Maga, which was carried out under the supervision Imi Lichtenfeld, founder Krav Maga, receiving an instructor's certificate and subsequently becoming his first American student. Among other things, the book describes two true stories of people who used Krav Maga to protect against attack.

According to the authors Krav Maga is not a martial arts style of any kind: it is not sport-oriented in any way, nor does it require graceful movement. The authors also emphasize that people studying Krav Maga, should never fight by the rules.

One of the goals Krav Maga is to repel as many different types of attacks as possible with one movement. The end result is not the technique itself - that is the principle. It is important that the student Krav Maga knew how to improvise.

The authors also state that the principles Krav Maga can be applied to other aspects of life. Eg, Krav Maga teaches people to identify the source of danger, and this can be used in solving other types of problems: for example, in overcoming all sorts of troubles and/or in working in a stressful situation.

The book is divided into chapters by belt color, and each chapter is divided into a set of techniques depending on the skill level (belt). Each level focuses on a separate area:

  • 1 level (yellow belt) – introduction to basic hand-to-hand combat techniques and choking techniques.
  • 2 level (orange belt) – hand-to-hand combat techniques (intermediate level), the basics of real combat, familiarization with fighting while lying on the ground and “bear hugs”.
  • 3 level (green belt) – hand-to-hand combat techniques (intermediate level), real combat (intermediate level) and prone combat (intermediate level).
  • 4 level (blue belt) – protection from short-barreled firearms, sticks, hand-to-hand combat techniques (high level), prone combat (high level) and real combat (high level).
  • 5 level (brown belt) – protection from a knife, long-barreled firearms, hand-to-hand combat techniques (high level) and prone combat (high level).
  • 6 level (black belt), which would have included scenarios involving hostages, multiple attackers, and third party defense, was not included in this book due to lack of space.

However, the authors say the basics covered here are primarily designed to address street attacks. For various types of techniques, subsequent counterattacks and movements are described. The training itself will be tough, with real choking techniques and training weapons, but all this will have to be done only in the final stages of training.

I wonder what it means for them to have a real fight to surrender the belts?

As I understand it, this refers to the theory of conducting a real battle, this is a book for reference, first of all.
