Exclusive interview with Scott Adkins for VanDammeFan.net

As a thank you for being from the site forum VanDammeFan.net footage was removed from “Universal Soldier 4”containing serious spoilers, Scott Adkins gave his consent to an exclusive interview and through Nick'but Giangrosso answered questions from forum members.

eddie_lummox: Well, I wanted to ask Scott about how his recovery [from injury] is going. And also, since “Unisol” can be discussed, what is his character’s fighting style?

Scott Adkins: The recovery is going very well. I tore my knee ligaments back in March of 2011, so over the past few months I've had difficulty hitting some of the more athletically challenging shots. It's hard to recover from an injury like this, but I'm confident that I'll be back to my best physical shape in the coming months.

Jizzle4050: Thanks for the exclusive! Scott, I'm wondering what your character is like in The Expendables 2, and if Hector has a series of fights in store for him? Thanks in advance and speedy recovery. I hope your recovery is going well!

Scott Adkins: I can't say much about The Expendables 2, but it's going to be huge and it's been an honor to work with such a great cast. Jean-Claude and I did not remain in debt [to the fans]!!

ben: Regarding the previous film, “Hitman Games,” Steven Seagal was originally considered for the role, and I was wondering if Mr. Adkins met Steven Seagal and/or what he thought of his films and his competence in martial arts.

Scott Adkins: I've never met Segal, but I've always really liked his early work. Seagal had something different (aikido) that people hadn't seen before, and I loved the brutality of his fight scenes. And, of course, with a weapon he looked very believable. Seagal is a real pro, he studied Japanese martial arts in Japan, so he definitely knew a lot about what he was doing.

Well Dressed Killer: How was it working with Christian Slater?

Scott Adkins: Christian is a really nice guy and a professional. It was a pleasure to work with him, a very generous guy.

Lionheart351976: I'd like to ask Scott what his favorite shot is to perform and why.

Scott Adkins: I think the Guyver Kick because it's one of my signature moves and it takes people by surprise. It's actually pretty easy to do, or is it just me?

Martin: I realize there's little chance of an answer since it may contain some spoilers, but I'm interested in knowing two things about the new Universal Soldier movie.

1. Will Scott be a “unisol” in the film?

Scott Adkins: Wait for the movie and you'll see.

2. Why does Van Damme look like a zombie in this film?

Scott Adkins: It's war paint.

felix: Will you have any good on-screen fights in “The Expendables 2”?

Scott Adkins: I have 1 fight.

Dragonrage: Hello Scott! I have a couple of questions, I hope I get at least one answered hehe.

1. When should we expect the release of “El Gringo”, or at least the trailer? And can you tell us anything else about this film? Moreover, this is the first action comedy with your participation, if I’m not mistaken! Was it “difficult” to act in a comedy, because it was probably something new for you (right?), or was it “more difficult” with stunts?

Scott Adkins: It may end up being less comedy than I initially thought. The director had his own vision. I think it will come out this year. It's a fun action movie in every sense of the word, and I hope it turns out as good as the script.

2. What do you think about the new screen fighter Iko Uwais (star of the new film “The Raid”), and would you like to work with him in the future, or even work with any other Thai/Chinese directors. Personally, I think you should try Thailand or China because they have great directors and stuntmen. Maybe we can film “Undisputed 4” there, hehe.

Scott Adkins: I would love to work with Iko and Gareth Evans, the two of them are great and I can't wait to see The Raid, it looks great.

3. Have you received any proposals regarding future projects for 2012-2013 (except for the “Undisputed 4” you announced), which we do not know about yet, and which you can already tell us about?

Scott Adkins: I've been working non-stop for the past year, so I'm looking forward to spending time with my family. I have a fair amount of upcoming projects in stock.

4. And the last question: which film(s) of 2011 did you like best?

Scott Adkins: Warrior.

Setright: Hello, Mr. Adkins. I have three questions.

1. You announced that “Undisputed 4” will be filmed. Is there already a script ready for it or is development still ongoing?

Scott Adkins: There is a script, they are currently working on it and improving it. They haven't given the go-ahead yet, but I believe it will be removed. I like to play the role of Boyka.

2. In the credits of “Undisputed 3” I noticed a special thanks to Matt Mullins. Are they planning to use him in the 4th part?

Scott Adkins: Matt helped with pre-visualization of the fights for Undisputed 3, and I had a great time working with him on Chronicle of Roaring Metal. If I have the opportunity to invite him, I will definitely do so.

3. Did you have any interesting/funny experiences on set while working on The Expendables 2, and did you learn anything new from working on such a big budget film?

Scott Adkins: No doubt, I learned a lot from watching Stallone and others work.

KROM: Great, buddy. Have you already watched at least some preliminary version of “Unisol 4”? Being a movie fan, what do you think about it, although from “Renaissance” we already know about John Hyams’ extremely violent style.

Scott Adkins: I haven't seen it yet, but I have no doubts about John as a director and the script he wrote. It will be a very, very violent film, and I'm sure some people will find some of it shocking. Those who set age ratings will have a very difficult time. At the end of the day, there's a great script and a great director, and I have high hopes for the film, but until you see the finished product, it's hard to be completely sure of anything.

How did you feel about The Expendables 2 compared to other NuImage products? What is the scale of the film when viewed from the inside?

Scott Adkins: When you're filming with Stallone, Arnold, Willis, Van Damme and Chuck Norris, you can't even believe your eyes. Yes, it's big and looks great. The cinematography by Shelley Johnson is amazing! I'm lucky to be involved with the film, it's a win-win situation.

Despite the DTV franchise, do you believe that “Undisputed 4” will receive financing in the near future? Or a separate reboot film about Boyka?

Scott Adkins: I think he will. Cheer up!

vanberch: Scott, since Oasis is your favorite band, what do you think of the Gallagher brothers' post-breakup albums (Beady Eye and High Flying Birds)?

Scott Adkins: Noel's album was good. “Beady Eye” – not so much. I miss the old days.

UniSol GR77: Hi Scott.

1. Do you think your character is a copy of Luke Deveraux (from the first 3 parts), or is this character in itself completely different?

Scott Adkins: My character has some similarities to Luke, but he's also very different.

2. Did you like the first film in 1992?

Scott Adkins: Sure. This is the first film with an 18 age limit that I saw in the cinema.

3. Is the film very different from “Renaissance”?

Scott Adkins: Very much. It has a much more thoughtful plot, and I'm almost certainly sure that it will be much better in terms of action.

vandammeness: Would Scott like to star in a movie with M(M)A, like Jean-Claude did in “Bloodsport”?

Scott Adkins: I already did this in Undisputed, it's a shame that Boyka had to appear in the sequel! By the way, I hate it when people call them MMA movies these days, why don't they like the term "martial arts movies"?

ANDREY_UA: “The Expendables 2.” How was it, can you tell us briefly how you were invited?

Scott Adkins: Clearly I am on friendly terms with the producers at Millennium Films and I have expressed my interest to them. They were more concerned with casting the likes of Van Damme and Norris, which of course was to be expected, but it turned out that the idea of casting me as the second most important member of Van Damme's team made sense.

Jazz404: As a judoka, I am very pleased to see that you use judo in your fight scenes. Why do you think this great martial art is so rarely used in on-screen combat?

Scott Adkins: Judo is my foundation, the first martial art I learned. It does not look as spectacular on the screen as other types of martial arts, but if you choose the right technique and the right moment, then the opposite is quite possible.

Scott Adkins: Just want to thank you guys for not posting those photos from Unisol, they were leaked by mistake and we really appreciate you supporting the film we all worked so hard on.

Make it simpler, turn it on on your computer and record from the screen (Sony Vegas is the same) and you won’t need brainwashing...)

    Holy shit... Really brain@$#$@stvo!!!

"FANAT, use the DVDDecrypter program and you will be happy."
This program turns out to be only for analog images, it does not recognize it. The message Error Video file TMPG appears, and then some numbers. In short, send me ALL the suitable programs and we’ll see!

Images cannot be analog in any way. ;) Moreover, you have a disk, not an image. What format are the files in the VIDEO_TS folder? .ifo + .vob? Then there shouldn't be any problems. What is the file system on the HDD? If it’s FAT32, then you can’t copy it to an image (ISO) in any way; you have to select it to a file or to an IFO (preferably the latter, if you need to re-encode it to .avi later). This program does not re-encode the video, but skips the encoded sections when copying. A free new version of DVDFab HD Decrypter8.1.6.3 has been released.

Since it gives an error related to TMPG, and this is a type of MPEG-2 format compressor, then the video stream itself may be encoded. Then you need to look for programs like TMPGEnc Authoring Works and others like it. This company has programs for DVD authoring, maybe one of them is encoded.

Scott so interestingly ignored the part of the questions that he could not or did not want to answer))

:interview with director and Scott, as well as Making of Undisputed 3

    What a news!!!
And I think why the second part of Undisputed had “macking”, but the third part did not.
It turns out that there is, too - they’re just clamped down by the smart-ass pendos!!!
Come on guy, post this video with all your might, we NEED TO SEE IT!!!

Scott shared a video from Twitter (cutting of making-of videos from “Undisputed 2”):

    Author's gravatar

There are no such inscriptions on the cover. I think that this is still a director’s part (maybe something like an additional version), since there are these 2 scenes that are not on a regular DVD. Thanks for the advice. If successful, who and where should I donate?

For some reason it’s encrypted, I can’t download it to my computer

FANAT, use the DVDDecrypter program and you will be happy. :)

    O_o
Does the disk say uncut, extended director's cut, or something else? I would love to watch the full version and all the extras.
A photo of the disc to the studio.

Friends! Are you aware that there IS a director's cut of UND3?! My sister arrived from the States yesterday, brought me a REAL (as they say first-hand) license, for some reason it is encrypted, I can’t download it to my computer. There are a few bonuses: an interview with the director and Scott, as well as Making of Undisputed 3. But the main thing is that there are 2 deleted scenes: at the beginning of the film, when Boyka is bullied by his own prisoners because of his leg, and the second minor one is a conversation between Markov (the head of the zone) and The Hague about the decision to send Boyka to Georgia... Help with the coding, and you will see THIS too!
