John Woo to Direct Manhunt (1976) Remake

Fans of John Woo's work should be pleased with the news that the legendary director, with the support of Media Asia, is starting work on a new film. It will be a remake of the 1976 Japanese film called "Manhunt" Media Asia promises that this will be an adrenaline-pumping action thriller that will shock audiences.

The original film was based on the novel by Nishimura Yuko and was about a prosecutor whose intense mission was to clear his name after being involved in numerous murders. In 1978, it was the first foreign film to be released in China since the Cultural Revolution and became a hit at the time.

Media Asia confirmed that "Manhunt" will be John Woo's next film after working on the two-part war epic "The Crossing". Also, company representatives said that the project will be realized in Chinese, Korean and English.

I tried to find any information about the original film, but when I asked "Manhunt“I couldn’t find anything other than the computer game of the same name. Does anyone have information on this topic?

In his best films, Wu used shooting, not BI. Chow Yun Fat was never really a fighter - this is about the main action hero John WU.

I think he will add more shooting.

      wesker,

The translation of the name is, of course, strange, but from the description it seems similar. It doesn't even smell like martial arts. Perhaps Wu will add...

Why did you decide that there would definitely be martial arts there?

          wesker,

Well, I guessed logically. An old Asian action movie... what is it if not kung fu?) And what kind of director is being taken.

Well, the Japanese have never had particularly spectacular action.
After all, karate is not kung fu.
And John Woo, as they correctly noted in his best films, uses shooting, not BI.

Wu has made many martial arts films. I don’t see anything surprising in assuming that the next action movie will include martial arts. And this is Japanese karate, Chinese kung fu, or Korean taekwondo - this is generally the tenth conversation.

Will there be fights or just action?

      Ravenside,

Judging by the description of the original film, there will be plenty of fights. They will simply be diluted with the emotional component of the plot. As I understand it, the film will also not be rated for children.
