That there will be a spin-off in the John Wick universe called “Ballerina” we know since 2019. And so, this week, the CinemaCon exhibition in Las Vegas became a platform for demonstrating the trailer for this action film. The audience is delighted.
The trailer is not publicly available yet, but we were not left completely without content, we will try to collect what is known at the moment...
- So, there is news that can be called both bad and good at the same time, the good thing is that the planned release date is known - June 6, the bad news is that it is 2025. Project Manager, Chad Stahelski, decided not to rush and make a product worthy of “John Wick” level.
- The main character of “Ballerina” still plays Ana De Aramas, however, there will be Keanu Reeves. He will act as a mentor.
- Everything in the director's chair remains the same, he sits in it Len Wiseman, who worked on the Underworld franchise.
- The script lies at: Shee Hatten, who wrote for John Wick 3, 4 and 5, Michael Finch (John Wick 4, Hitman: Agent 47), and Emirald Fennell (Barbie...).
- The film will take place between parts 3 and 4 of the original franchise. The trailer showed how the heroine De Aramas enters the Continental and is greeted by Charon, the hero Lance Reddick, for whom this role was the last. They will also return to their roles. Ian McShane и Anjelica Huston.
- There will be a new character played by Norman Ridus, known from the series “The Walking Dead”. The rest of the cast: Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and others.
Trailer description from The Wrap's Kristen Lopez:
An early trailer shows Rooney, a ballerina who trains at an all-girl assassin school to master her skills and avenge the murder of her family. She is described as “the new face of revenge.”
The trailer features the smoothly shot and ultra-violent action scenes that people have come to expect from “John Wick“, set against a backdrop of cold, snowy terrain and coldly lit basements.
Variety's Brent Lang also talks about Reeves' return to the film in a scene from the trailer:
“How can I start doing what you do?” de Armas asks the legendary killer. “It looks like you’ve already done it,” Reeves remarks wryly.
The lucky ones who managed to get acquainted with the promotional materials of this action film note that “Ballerina” will be “extremely cruel” and the main character will demonstrate a wild cocktail of MMA, kung fu and ballet.
So far, this seems to be all that is known about this project. It is unclear when the above-mentioned trailer will be shown to a wider audience, but for now we can watch the fan trailer:
