John Salvitti talks about action movie Pound of Flesh

John Salvitti (John Salvitti), choreographer and stunt coordinator at "Pound of Flesh", shared some details about his work on the film in a recent interview.

“The ZhKVD has heard a lot about my work. Mike Leader, the film's producer, kept him in the loop. When the project was approved, they decided to give me a chance. I met with director Ernie Barbarash, read the script, and we got started.”

Thanks to John given the script in advance, he managed to prepare most of the choreography at his home gym in Los Angeles, after which he went to China. Arriving at the scene, he rehearsed the choreography with Chinese stuntmen and then filmed for JCVD and the director, a series of pre-visas of the biggest fights in which he replaced the main character.

“When ZhKVD and I met, he really liked my videos. It meant a lot to me."

“There is plenty of action in the film. I used all my martial arts knowledge to create the fights... It was a pleasure to work with our main on-screen villain, Darren Shahlavi. This guy is just a beast!

“The film has MMA, jiu-jitsu, judo, military combat tactics, karate, kung fu, Thai boxing, silat. Just like in a real fight, the course of the fight can change at any second..."

“I have an international team of cool stuntmen, these are guys from Hong Kong/China, USA, Brahim Achabbake from Thailand, Temur Mamisashvili from Hong Kong, Mike Möller from Germany, Kimekai from Australia, and they are all like brothers. I share my style with them, they learn the choreography and do their thing... A real team spirit.”

“JKVD with the director and producers supported us as best they could, and this served as a great inspiration. Very often, looking at the monitor, I could barely contain myself. “Dat-la” means “excellent” in Cantonese and I wanted to scream!!! They were like fire! We tried to achieve this result in every scene. It seemed as if my school days were back, I was watching my favorite “Bloodsport”, and ZhKVD still had the same sparkle in his eyes... He is a legend. It was an honor to work with him!.. And we are negotiating about filming the second part!”

Well, I don’t know, in my opinion, they worked very well with Jean-Claude - “Killer Games” and “Six Bullets” turned out well... From my point of view, as a director, he is progressing with each film. In any case, I hope for the best!

Killer games are trash, you can only watch a couple of action scenes...and the trailer for it is much better than the film itself.

The same goes for 6 bullets...you can watch the beginning (there are cool girls there) and the fight scene in the strip club...that's all.

I don’t expect much from Barbarash’s work... because he’s mostly rubbish.

I will also say “well, well,” but only with more positivity. :)

I don’t expect much from Barbarash’s work... because he’s mostly rubbish. I don’t even understand what happened to his Favela with Jay White in Ch. roles? no trailer, no new footage...

About the interview. Everything is said positively, but... the presence of facts known to us about the director and the JCVD, everything only causes grief and irritation in Salviti’s words.
Damn it (!) films with BI actors are watched because of THEIR action, AND NOT FOR THE ACTOR'S "TALENT" or whatever they are trying to "play". And if in the action scenes there is always ch. characters are replaced by doubles, then it’s not worth it at all and they’re filming. They’ll only disappoint the fans...

Well, well...let's see what this tape is like.

It would be better if I posted a video of the pre-visa) Otherwise, talking about choreography is the same as telling what an orange smells like. Until you smell it yourself, you won’t understand.
And also, there would be fewer doubles in the film. Otherwise, I don’t want to watch Van Damme the whole film from afar and from behind.
