Donnie Yen in the series, Florentine's combat pensioners, reboot of "The Karate Kid"

Martial arts movie superstar Donnie Yen (Ip Man franchise) last starred in a TV series in 1995 in a kung fu action movie "Fist of Fury: Oath of Vengeance". But judging by the news, we will soon be able to see 59-year-old Ian in the new series.

We are talking about the director's project Peter Chan, with whom Donnie had already worked on a film "Sword Bearers" (2011). The series is called "Open Loser, Hidden Master" (Outright Loser, Hidden Master) and will also be a hand-to-hand action movie in genre, so we can again say that Yen’s statement about leaving kung fu projects is just media noise.

According to news agency Deadline, Donny will play an Asian-American martial artist who notices that some seemingly ordinary people in Hong Kong are actually kung fu masters. In the future, the hero will discover that true masters pass on their skills with the help of their own memories, which they imprint on the bodies of strangers. Thus, an interesting and not entirely ordinary story unfolds.

The series will be produced by the company Changin' Pictures, which will provide the final material to one of the popular streaming services in China. We just have to wait for news about this project.

Dogs of war

Cult director of action B-movie Isaac Florentine (Franchise "Undisputed") is preparing an action movie "Dogs of war" with Frank Grillo in the title role, but also does not forget about new projects.

Isaac's new film is called "Hellfire" (Hellfire) and it will become another rehash of the currently popular theme “pensioners are back in business” according to the script Richard Lowry, with whom Florentine had already worked on an action film "Hostage" (2020) starring Scott Adkins. True, the backlog is very reminiscent of the plots of such imperishable films as "Bodyguard" (1961) Akira Kurosawa and "For a Fistful of Dollars" (1964) by Sergio Leone, as well as a more modest but famous piece "Lone Hero" (1996) starring Bruce Willis.

The film tells the story of a drifter with a mysterious past who arrives in a small town and finds its inhabitants in the clutches of a ruthless crime lord. The mysterious stranger realizes that he must help them.

The main role was played by a 70-year-old Steven Lang (“Avatar”, the “Don’t Breathe” duology), and he is accompanied by an 83-year-old Harvey Keitel ("Taxi Driver", "Reservoir Dogs"), 64-year-old Dolph Lundgren ("Showdown in Little Tokyo", "Aquaman") and martial artist and actor Johnny Yong Bosch (“Interrupted Path”, “Death Grip”), who, however, is only 46 years old.

The film is already in active shooting stages and is likely to release next year.

Karate Kid

About the sequel "The Karate Kid" (2010) started there are rumors immediately after the release of the largely successful film, but since then Jackie Chan noticeably aged, and Jade Smith not the same for a long time. But the success of the series "Cobra Kai" launched a new wave of rumors.

For example, a company Sony announced a new film in the series for June 7, 2024. And already here the specialized media decided to look into it, but, as usual, nothing is really clear. Studio bosses are keeping secret whether this will be an ideological sequel to the film with Chan, whether it will be a film within the universe of the original trilogy "Karate Guy" and series "Cobra Kai", or will it be another reboot of the franchise.

Some sources such as Screen Rank, reported that the project has already been assigned Ralph Macchio in the role of Daniel Russo and the story will develop within the main franchise. But one of the creators "Cobra Kai" from Netflix John Hurwitz on his Twitter stated that he and his creative team wanted to make a new film "Karate Guy" and feature film "Cobra", but about the project from Sony he doesn't know anything. It's worth adding that Macchio is one of the producers of the show, so it's unlikely that he would be able to sign on to a project with the same character from an outside company.

In any case, all that remains is to wait for news and watch the new season "Cobra Kai", Certainly. In the meantime, remember the original film.

Wow, Yong Bosch Florentine will film it! In his youth he was very cool on camera. If I was lucky, I could have become a star, but as a result I went into voice acting and found success there.
The surname in this case turned out to be the speaker, surrounded by pensioners.
