Film "Lefty"(Southpaw) is a boxing drama from the famous director, Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Shooter), starring Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal.
Billy "The Great" Hope (Gyllenhaal) is a professional boxer who dominates the junior middleweight division. His original tactics, the so-called "Southpaw", are expressed in spectacular but brutal offensive combat... fueled by his own feelings of inferiority and desperate need for love, money and fame. Having an exemplary family, home and financial security, Billy is “on horseback” until his wife dies in a tragic accident. This event brings him to the bottom.
From now on, his days are an endless haze due to alcohol and drugs. His daughter was sent to an orphanage, and the house was confiscated by the bank due to debts. Billy's fate remains in doubt until a former boxer named Tick takes the grieving man under his wing. A ruthless, dedicated fighter who thinks as he strikes, Thicke reshapes Billy into a new man: agile, fearsome, and uncompromising in the ring - while empathetic, loving and disciplined outside of it.
But now, as he seeks to regain custody of his daughter and returns to professional boxing, Billy comes face to face with his own demons, learning that sometimes your toughest opponent can be yourself.

The beginning was interesting, and the actors played well, but at the end they fell short.

I'm sure it will be a great film - I respect this actor for his serious approach to his roles!
Well, Gyllenhaal is great. He always prepares thoroughly for his roles. Specifically in terms of physicality or appearance, he changed many times for the role in the same way that Bale or Fassbender did for example.
